Bridgeport Mill for $699 ???

Just found this on craigs list:

Bridgeport Mill HP1 Model F-372-00-889 - $699

Selling an Industrial Use Bridgeport Mill, HP1 Type JV Model F-362-00-889. Also included are 2 Sets of Mill Hold Downs, asking $699 or best offer.

Such a price what could be wrong with it? Or am I wrong for thinking its a low price.

I don't think that price is too far off. When I sold worn out Bridgeports to the used machinery guy I'd get about $500.00-600.00 for them. I think that he sold them for about twice that.
At that time a new bridgeport was about $17,000.00 and a complete rebuild was about $10,000.00.

I would if I had adequate space and a place for it as long as there is not much needed to get it working well again, I would even if it meant sleeping on the couch for a week if not longer due to ******* the wife off.

For a used mill, it looks real good cosmetically. Looks like a short table, which may, or may not matter to you. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a mill. Could be a diamond in the not so rough. Who knows, $600 might even get it done, doesn't hurt to ask.

Ya know I used to think so too but once saw APmech mention that the weight of them makes the tables sag in time and Servo is a better choice. I dunno, probably more of an issue with the 9x49s than the 9x42s?

And I think that one is even shorter, looks like 36" at the most.

It sure looks like a 42" to me!

The original Bridgeport power feeds on the M-head machines were monsters and it's known they cause the table to creep over half a century or so, especially on the longer table machines.

If you could make use of it..... make it happen....

I would at least go and look at it. It would be interesting to see how worn the ways are and if the head has any noise in it....

I looked at one about a year ago at 1000 bucks. The table had so much slop in it, you could turn the wheel 3/4 turn before the table started to move.

That's not slop in the table, but rather the nuts/screws. It poses very little issue for the actual use of the mill. Even less so if it's got a DRO on it.

Slop in the gibs, however, can cause problems. If the gibs are wore out, the table or knee will actually rotate on its axis, instead of moving along it.

My first post here was a copy/paste right from the craigs list posting.

It was listed at $699 its now $1699 I knew it was to good to be true. It was a typo or the person realized how much they really could make on it. Now I don't feel bad for having to pass up a deal.
