Where to get good ratcheting tie downs?

I'm so tired of the generic ratchet tie downs. The cheesy paper thin side plates that bend and I spend 10 minutes wrestling with them just to get them to work. I use them all the time in my truck for picking up steel, moving stuff and whatever else. Any suggestions? All I can ever seem to find is cheap imported junk.

Almost tempted to buy pink or something just so people don't punk them from me and I know which ones are mine.

That's a good question. I haven't seen any good ones in years.
They are all ****.

I hope someone comes up with an answer.

It drives me nuts because I keep buying the crappy ones and they just keep breaking/bending. I'm also worried one will fail at an inopportune time. I use my truck all the time as a truck and it's something I always have with me.

At work I purchase some products from Partsmaster. They are an "industrial supply" company that visits regularly. I don't think they sell online or to "Harry Homeowner".

That said this is probably no help, but....
I got the straps listed on top in the link below and I love them! All the things said in the flyer are true.
I do not have a bad thing to say about them.
More than likely they are available elsewhere under another name but I don't know.

Back when I was loading/unloading trucks, I got all of my 2" ratchet straps off the parking lot as "left behinds". :D

The straps I bought 20yrs ago are still holding up. The straps I bought 10yrs ago are all frayed and wearing out. Most of the new ones don't hold up for even one trip.

Tractor supply has some decent ratchet straps. They seem to be a generic brand (smartstrap?), but are of high quality. Even the 1" straps have a handle like the 3" straps used on trucks. The ratchet is a brass-ish color, like grade 8 bolts, as are the heavy duty hooks on the ends. The 1" are rated at 1000# and the webbing isn't that think ****. I didn't see any of the 1" on the website but I bought some in store last week.

Kinedyne and Ancra are good brands. There are others. Buy them online or look for a truck parts store, movers supply etc.

Upsize a little they'll last a lifetime and ratchet tight enough to break stuff if you're not careful.

Search for a ship supply. Lashing on freighters is serious business. I have 4 straps and one ratchet plus some hook ends. I'd say the straps are close to 1/4" thick.

Also, since you are in Orange, contact Crow Safety Equipment. They do all kinds of things with straps. Mr. Crow was the general manager at Simpson until the Dale Earnhardt death just about wiped Bill Simpson out. Simpson sold and Crow opened his own firm. His son runs it now but I think Crow is there most days.

Crow will restrap anything for free that was originally purchased from him unless it needs a certified date and he will redo anyone else's belts for a nominal fee most of the time in 24 hours.

Hellova nice guy.

I have a set of 4 ratchets that are about 3" wide that I bought at a local car swap meet 8-10 years ago. They may be over kill for you, but you can get 4 ratchets, with spring loaded clips and axle straps for $90-$100. I go to 5-6 swap meets each year and there are venders at each of them selling sets in several colors. Also these straps are rated around 4000# each, great for hauling cars or heavy loads. I like the spring loaded end clips, because the ends will not come unhooked if the strap develops slack in it. LC

IMO, you have to be very careful what you buy there, because a lot of it is just cheap ****.
There is no way I would buy their ratcheting tie downs... Most likely Chinese made.

I make my own using hardware from the military, Strapworks or US Cargo Control. I have several sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine to make it easy....

Wow - That's a nice sewing machine!

I bet most of you never thought you would read that sentence here!

I buy nothing but cheap HF and Home Depot ratcheting straps and so far only issue has been pulling off tie downs on rental trucks. Cranking away on a load last year and I notice a corner of the truck raising up and it was pulling the bed off the frame.

If I was regularly hauling steel I would be using pro quality stuff and hopefully they would be welded to the frame.
