So been waiting for a deal on Mobil1 0w-40 Full Synthetic for my 06 supercharged 426 Jeep GC SRT8 and 06 BMW 550i. Came up with a pretty good thing with some shopping around.

Ok…So autozone sells 5qt (1 GAL) jugs for 35.99. If you want to get the actual 1qt bottles it is 8.99. But if you buy them in quantities of 5 you get them at the 35.99 price.

Now walmart sells the 1 Gal jugs for around $25. (sometimes a little cheaper) but the 1qt for 7.74-8.00. But will not sell the 1qt if sets of 5 for the same price as the 1 gal jug.

for the deal. Autozone around here price matches the 1 gal jug from walmart..and will also sell the 1QT jugs to meet the price of the 1gal jug…which is about $5.00 per qt.

I know some are going to ask why don't i just get the 1 Gal from walmart and call it good…3 reasons… 1) Both cars that take it use more than 5 qts but less than 10 (or 15 combined), 2) I have large vidmar cabinets and my large drawers fit them perfect in a angle and if not I'd have to store them on my wood shelves and I don't like having oils/fluids on wood…seems to always end up bad for me, 3) I love to display things in quantity and neat…I do the same thing with gear oil, wd40, cleaners etc.

Thought someone might find this useful.

I know they have deals at times but this will work everyday.

If anyone knows of other deals out there please let me know…(I only use Mobil1, royal purple, or Amsoil)

Sometimes you can buy the bags (as in a bag in a box) of mobil 1 cheaper. I've never used amsoil or royal purple and don't use mobil 1 anymore because I'm a cheapskate.

I used to check the flyers to get deals for mobil 1 then I swapped to syntec, then I swapped to pennzoil plat, then I swapped to generic walmart synthetic. Actually lasts longer (degrades less quickly) in my car; used to turn mobil 1 into chocolate after the first 2 weeks. Different strokes for different folks.

Of the flyers I believe actually Kmart would be the one to check for higher grade stuff. They used to sell mobil 1 and syntec cheaper on sale than most other places. Might not be valid today.

Call your local Schaeffer oil rep or dealer. I just bought Supreme 9000 full synthetic for $22 a gallon. It's the best engine oil you can get.

A quart is a quarter of a gallon. Not unlike a quarter being a quarter of a dollar. 5 quarts isnt a gallon, it's 1.25 gallons.

If you're talking liters, that's a different story. But the math between quarts and gallons is pretty simple

went in to autozone today and went to get some more 0w40 mobil1. Used the price match which they say they would do and have done…tell them i want to price match walmart and they say they won't price match them…well after so arguing about 45 mins worth of deal working…I ended up getting 15qts for 134.85…. not that great right…well then i got 62.85 off of the oil. which comes out to 72.00 for 15qts of oil…or 4.80 per qt. pretty good deal if you ask me…especially since they were like 9.00 a qt

Not to mention that friends don't let friends shop at Malwart - rots your brain and you have to subsidize all the underpaid workers who have to rely on food stamps to get by.

Oh, the porsche driver from wine country in Kalifornia doesn't want us to shop at Walmart!

I've got a fleet of high hour, hard ran diesel farm equipment and independent oil analysis that backs up the claim. If it starts, spins, or moves it get Schaeffer's lube and a Baldwin filter.

You have no idea how cheap an owner of a 928 can be, but mine likes the oil at Walmart just fine, and its a freaking joke if people think Walmart employee's could get better jobs, they are working at the limits of their abilities in many cases.

What's the wd-40 for? You burning down your neighbor's spirit journey tent? Alternatively, what's the paint thinner for (white/green bottle, think I've seen bottle that at lowes)? Alteratively, if the paint thinner if flammable (which it might be, it's the eco stuff but it still might be flammable) why are you storing it in a drawer that isn't supremely breathable with no type of arrestor (baking soda?). Actually the wd-40 is flammable so it shouldn't be there too especially if you live in a place with high seasonal temperatures.:dunno:

I just have to ask...kind of a personal duty deal so people don't end up burning down their houses with their children inside. And...go!

green and white is mineral oil…used to get some of the grout/mortar off of the tile i put in my bathroom a month ago.

WD is just the cans i've collected over the years. Guess i'll put some baking soda in there some day. I guess if it does ever go up…i get to start completely over the exact way i want it….JK

I buy my Mobile1 from Meijer. They have it at the same price as Walmart, ($22.50 I believe) and then about once a month or so, they'll come out with 15-20% off any general merchandise mPerks coupons. That brings it down to $18 for the big jug.

Anyone know if average joe can buy oil by the drum? Either in 55 gal or the smaller sizes (30g I think)?

Look closely at that Rotella, the truck stuff used to have higher ZDDP, but they reduced it at some point. I use Royal Purple in my flat tappet car for the ZDDP.

Dino or syth on the Rotella ZDDP?

Synthetic I know says its safe for modern cats, which means not so safe for old flat lifters, but they "claim" its plenty good. I use the dino.

I hate thinking about oil, so may end up buying something like Brad Penn or Schaeffer.

I used to use Redline, forget now why I switched. Used to leak out of my Mustang really well.

Everyone seems to like Mobil, but I'm a Valvoline guy. Its bottled right here in Kentucky, which makes me happy.

Best deal I've found on it was at Napa. $20 for 5 quarts of synthetic and a silver filter. Last spring it was $2.50 a quart and their gold filters were 50% off. Both times I've stocked up pretty ********. They are always amazed with I roll out with 3-4 boxes (12 quarts in a box) and 5-6 filters. I don't understand why more people don't do this? A synthetic oil change for $20. Cant beat that.

I'm not brand loyal, every brand has their good oils and bad oils.

Stuff I'll buy:

Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20
Castrol EDGE 0w-30 (the fabled German Castrol)
Shell Rotella T6 (5w40)

I think I'm going to try Toyota's 0w20 next though, they make a fully synthetic 0w20 with an exceptionally low pour point, which should greatly reduce wear on startup when it's the motor is cold. It's 80-some bucks from the dealer for a full case (12 qts). Search BITOG for some more info (known as TGMO on that forum). It's made by XOM to Toyota's specs.

Mobil 1 5+ quart jug plus mobil 1 filter is currently $34.99 for one set at Advance, or $29.99 for two sets. (Two 5 quart jugs, two filters = $59.98). Works out to $6/quart plus two free filters.

Same here, tho I normally go with good wick USA filters.
