Garage Door Broke Violently

You can't tell by the pictures but this was a very noisy and violent break. I believe some of my garage cleanup yesterday put something in the path of the door closing. I was on the phone handling a support call and I punched in the code to close the door. All hell broke loose and before I knew it there was a pile of twisted metal in front of me. I managed to pop things back in and it looks much better now.

I used a bungee cord to keep the door closed on the top for now but it looks like two top rollers from the upper left is completely missing. I have no idea where they flew off to or how they came out. And the bracket where the garage door opener attaches to the door broke away from the door.

Any recommendations on the best way to fix the attachment to the door for the opener? It looks like the metal is stripped and pulled out. As for the rollers I guess Home Depot may offer replacements. I can't find those rollers anywhere in my garage.

You can probably drill new holes and use a different brace if necessary to reattach the opener. If the door panels are straight enough, new wheels might fix the rest of the problem. If the panels are bent enough, the new wheels might no longer stay in place.

Your opener should have a pressure sensor that reverses on the slightest resistance.

Thank you for your reply. The panels look straight after I pushed them back into place.

I just hope it was the boxes that got in the way and not something else. I can't tell since I closed it from the outside and once I got on the inside everything was moved.

The other thing I don't understand is I adjusted the force before. It should of stopped pushing but it would not. It kept going and going until I waved my foot to break the beam to stop it. If I didn't stop it that thing would be smoking right now until the motor died.

Yes, it didn't work. I did the 2x4 adjustment before but it must be way out of spec now or that part of the circuit no longer works.

I remember a friend's wife showing us their new garage door reversing with a box under it, except it didn't reverse it did what yours did there. Because of that I'm always careful with mine because I've seen it go bad.

I found at Home Depot a operator reinforcement kit by the same manufacture of my door. It fit perfect and is much thicker then the angle iron I had there that popped out twice in the 10 years I have used it. I also like how it pivoits on a pin and has room to move around a little.

I did find one of the rollers but I just replaced them both anyway.

I also played with the down-force adjustment. I started at the very minimum and worked my way up just until it would close without stopping.

I got the rollers at Home Depot. It was $7 for two if you get the nylon. The metal ones are cheaper but I bet more noisy.

While I was looking for the parts to fix my garage door I literally tripped over this. Any thoughts on this insulator kit? Thought it might help me heat up my garage easier.

I was just reading some reviews and people complained about it coming out on the corners and looking ugly. Or the clips pop loose and the panels fall out. Is foam board better?

Just buy 4x8 sheets of 1\2" foam and cut to fit.

Do I just use some spray glue to hold it in?
