Kiwi Shed Repair

The old shed was originally the Farriers workshop. It had a dirt floor and lots of steel pins in the walls for hanging horse shoes on. The doors were only big enough to fit a small gig thru.


Move on 130 years and we arrive. New iron on the roof.


a little while later I put a concrete floor in , changed the door to BIG added mains power and things were sweet for the next 20+ yrs.



However , time had taken its toll and the birds wrecked the walls by pecking holes for nesting.
The time had come for a repair ......... LOL.

Strong arm S.I.L and G.O.M got into it over christmas.

My shed has SOOO much junk in it , especially all that stuff hanging on the walls , there was no way I was going to take a week off to shift it , so I found it amusing to see the silhouettes created as the cladding came off.



Many boring pics of demolition later ........

The 1st sheet of ply got thrown up.

Yep , that fits ..... 3020mm x 1200mm x 17mm

Surprisingly few items fell off the wall during the demo , and a few forgotten treasures were retrieved as the cladding was cleared away, here I have just recovered a pair of 55 chev truck brake bits . Long forgotten.



So we continued to rip into it with enthusiasm

Mostly the frame of the shed was heart Rimu and very sound condition still , although there were a few wee bits that had got a bit ugly



Soon fixed with some new Studs and all's well again.

And daughter did well using the pickup as a wheel barrow to gather up the junk cladding.

And on to the south wall ........

It was in poor condition due to being the cold damp side , so several more studs had to be replaced here.

More silhouettes , you can tell I was amused by this imagery.

Still a little detail work , some battons and weather board , then I hope to get the girls to paint the shed while I go away in the truck camper

Thanks 1/2 cup, I know I'm a skinflint and I should have fixed the shed 25 yrs ago , but that's how it goes Who knows , it may last another 100 yrs , LOL.

The truck is a '40 Chev , I have had it for about 16yrs and it's been a reliable daily driver .

What about that last wall? Now you have to insulate and put some gib or ply on inside so you can hang and store more stuff in there....South or North Canterbury? I Have cousins just out of Rangiora.....

The Benz grills are a mix of early and face lift w114 and w201 grills . The w123 grills are still on the parts cars (more work later)

Yep, I'm near Rangiora , so there is no show of me insulating or lining the shed , the climate is generally mild and if it is bad, then there is the fire .......

Once I get this reclad repair finished , I am planing to shift that storage rack in the middle of the shed and install a hoist .

I did manage to get the girls to paint the shed , I put the mobile vice outside for those filthy grinding jobs , added an outside power socket , all good .

Also , I made the effort to shift all the stuff in the middle , making room for the yet to be purchased hoist .

Shed is looking awesome and reorganising it has definitely paid off. You managed to retain a lot of the character. Also have a load of over head space but will probably mess with the natural lighting provided by the clear roof panels.

Love the truck too.

Cool space. Noticed your merc's, one is rhd and one is left. We can get away with that here in the states if the vehicle enters after its 25th birthday. Rules similar there ?
