Just completed full wiring and mounting, oiled her up and Ran her. Engine was humming nice. Had music playing things were good. Once I shut off the music I heard it. A leak in the weld at the bottom of the tank.

I bought it at HD and its mounted. Any suggestions on what I can get out of this one?

You're positive that it isn't the drain valve leaking and it is indeed a weld?

x2 check the bung at the bottom for the drain before condemning the tank. I was under the impression they had to be tested and certified...

I always thought that pressure tanks, had to have an inspection and a national board number. Ken.

If you have a weld leaking, do not run it. It could come apart violently and kill someone.

BS....its a pin hole in a new weld BFD

49chevys......email Home Cheapo and tell them to send somebody out to inspect it

ALL commercial tanks are ASME certified, there is a number and date stamped into the tank......don't worry, you have them by the balls:thumbup:

somebody certified a tank, a tank they didn't test......morons

email ASME and give them the numbers and tell them a NEW certified tank is leaking

email IR too

MAKE SURE IT'S NOT THE DRAIN VALVE 1st

Must be the DIYer IR compressor from china. I think a lot of Home Dumpo stuff is from china and of lessor quality too.
Well maybe!

**** happens.

Raise hell with Home Crapo and IR. If they stonewall you then just do a chargeback on your credit card.

Let us know the outcome.

Weld might look ******, but the only way to know is spray some soapy water or even windex on it and see where bubbles are actually coming from. Could be anything. Takes a minute to find the real leak.

I thought IR was quality so I bought one. Is there a non-low quality unit I should look at from IR? Should I go to Dewalt or Quincy?

IR's consumer grade compressors are garbage. (however the welds shouldn't leak!!). I'd buy the HF 60 gallon compressor over IR any day.

Sure seems to be the weld according to your video. But, as mentioned, spray some soapy water and see where it bubbles first. It stinks that you might have to take it back but I'm sure IR and Home Depot will make it right.

Although a video of the bubbles that will make would be kinda cool it is definetly the weld you can hear the chsnge in sound when you run your finger over the weld. HD or IR someone needs to replace the compressor ASAP. I would be tempted to call IR and ask for an upgraded replacement!

Not only will soapy water confirm the leak, it's all you need to get some immediate action from the seller. Send that video to the manufacturer and to HD CS. I'd be interested in what they do. I recently had a warranty issue on a totally unrelated product from a different seller and they told me I had to do all the leg work and pay the freight. Now that's ******** in my book.

I called IR Boston office and spoke with Scott at 9:24 AM EST. He took my name, call back number, and address. He told me a field person would contact me and visit the tank. Haven't heard anything yet.

Did I miss something about just returning it to HD?? Stuff happens? I agree it's not like its easy throwing it in the car and away you go. If you don't have a way to get it back, then IR may be the best option You may have less hassle getting back to HD rather than waiting on IR come inspect it say yup, it's bad, you can return to HD or wait weeks ( just a guess) for Ir to replace it...I wouldn't hold my breathe for an upgrade, but 80 is a nice round number!! Just my .02

Good luck !

Yikes that's bad. Does this IR compressor lineup offer warranty only through Home Depot? I know with the entry level riding mowers sold at HD and Lowe's the parts are not interchangeable and of a different quality sold through their standard retailers.

IR is on the hook if I want to get it serviced. HD is on the hook if I want to return it to the store.

Definitely do that last part, or you'll look like a fool with your pants on the ground.

Wow, I know **** happens, but this definitely slipped through a few cracks. Seems a few dropped the ball on this one…..the certified welder, (or robotic welder) the tank certification, (obviously not tested) and IR not testing the finished product prior to releasing to the public.

This is total BS! I’m sick and tired of manufactures selling there products with minimal quality control or none at all. Seems this is common practice now days in order to keep costs down. Its cheaper / easier for them to just let the consumer act as quality control and if a product is defective, well, they just replace it. This usually always is at the expense of the consumer in some way or another. Just a good thing its not costing you down time at a place of business that depends on constant air.

It seems IR is slowly destroying their reputation in an effort to compete with the imports.

Good luck, hope you are somehow compensated for all your efforts and time lost.

What IR most defintely SHOULD be doing is ensuring that leaking tank is DESTROYED . . . in addition to taking care of customer with new, and hopefully better than initial purchase, complete compressor.

Would be wise for OP to ask for a little extra (better unit). :D

OP might get an extra motor and compressor out of deal, but most defintely that IR tank will be destroyed to prevent any future lawsuit.

Good luck OP and keep updates coming.
