"SAVESAFER" Virus Problems!

I'm getting something new, all of a sudden.

I'm getting advertising links for certain words! Is this something new for GJ? Or, do I have a plugin or some other nasty ad bug on Chrome web browser? It's so damn annoying!!! Whenever you hover over a word, a stupid ad link pops up!

Am I the only one getting this? Any idea what it is or how to get rid of it?

Ads only show up for me when I'm not logged in.

It's somewhat annoying because my computer logs me out randomly (firewalls, I guess) and when the ads show up, I know what's going on.

The primary annoyance is that one of the ads that appears says that I have a PM in my inbox. It's obviously an ad when I pay attention to it, but if I'm distracted, I have been close to clicking on it several times.

Only supposed to happen for guests. Were you logged in?

Kinda looks like you picked up some kind of virus or something.
I'm logged in.

OK, just noticed it was happening at other web forums, too. So, I closed down Chrome web browser. Then, ran CCleaner. It appears to be gone, now.

Fingers crossed.

Just looks I had a temp ad bug of some kind. Glad it's gone!

OK, it's happening again and this time Ccleaner and restarting my PC doesn't get rid of it.

What are my options now? I've done full sweeps of Webroot Spysweeper, Ccleaner and MicroSoft Security Essentials.

Oh, the problems only happen with Google Chrome and not MSN/IE.

EDIT: Just did a system restore. Problem is gone, but for how long?

Try downloading Combofix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

That's what I use on computers that are really infected and no other spyware remover worked....

Have you tried Spybot Search and Destroy ? You should be able to get a free version of the web.

Tried both. Didn't work. Spybot wouldn't run at all! Weird.

Tried to download "Combofix" and a different program was installed.

The ads I'm getting are knows as the "SAFESAVER" virus. Trying to find a program that will get rid of it. I've gotten rid of the program from my program list in my control panel. But, all it did was delete it from the list and I still have the virus.

Still trying to find something on my own, but don't know of anything of yet. I'll keep you guys updated and report what finally works.

You are looking at too much ****!

No such thing! :lol_hitti

No, that's not it. It's affecting Google Chrome web browser only. Don't watch internet ****. But, I do play a few online games and they have ads that pop up and I thought I may have, on accident, clicked on one of the pop ups. I only play these games with my Google Chrome web browser.

Downloaded Malwarebytes that seems to get rid of it, so the website claims. I hope so.

Still have the virus and can't seem to get rid of it. However, I did find a way to get rid of it by clicking on Chrome tools, extensions, disabling it and then deleting it. But, when I restart Chrome, it comes right back.

Still have it in my PC. So far, it only shows up in Chrome. That means it's stored in Google Chrome files stored on my PC somewhere. Maywarebytes didn't get rid of it.

You may also have a conflict between anti spy wear programs. It will not be a virus and it will be a spy program.

You could also try clearing history on chrome from the beginning and see if that helps. Also at the same time take out anything chrome will remember like passwords and log on details as that may help as well then when you start Chrome again you should be refreshed.

I know you will have lost log on details but if that is the price you have to pay it may work.

I've already cleared out my browsing history, download history, deleted cookies and plug-data, cache and others with no luck there.

Though, I can turn off the annoying function of seeing the ads, it's still in my PC ready to do it every time I fire up Chrome. I hate that.

I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of Chrome. And try downloading it again to see if that gets rid of the virus/spyware/malware or whatever the hell this thing is! Not sure what I'm going to lose doing that, though.

But, what I'm not going to do anymore is do searches for the fix. Every single one that said to download their program to get rid of it, didn't work at all. I figure it's just a bunch of lies to get you to download their program.

Well, I'm done asking here. Looks like I've reached my limit of what you guys can offer. Thanks for trying though. I appreciate it.

I'll let you know what works.

Did you boot your computer into safe mode and try then?

Press F8 while your computer boots... After the POST screen but before the Windows logo... It will give you the option to boot into safe mode. Then run malwarebytes or others and they should be able to remove it.

Removing Chrome and starting over may work. Have you tried another like Internet Explorer ? I still use that as a back up if I have any issues.

Other wise sorry I am all out of ideas. :headscrat We tried. :)

No! I'll give that at try! I forgot about booting in safe mode. This is the first problem I've had with a virus or spyware in years. Forgot all about doing that. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, I was thinking of deleting Chrome and redownloading it. I'm used to Chrome and can't get rid of it. It makes games run a lot faster than IE or MSN which I use a lot, too.

Yes you tried, and I appreciate the effort! Thank you. :)

Last time I updated Chrome I had issues like you. Do you have a safe date you can reset to ? That would be another thing you could try.

You've got an especially malignant virus that is a bear to remove (involves messing about with the registry). I picked it up from a CNET download, so it doesn't have anything to do with **** sites.

I finally "restored" Windows 7 Pro to the most recent "restore point" previous to the infection. I auto create these things daily, so it was utterly painless, though a total waste of several hours trying to fix it first. AFIK, there's no effective automated removal tool to take it out.

Cheers!

Ran in safe mode and did all the virus/malware programs I have. Didn't work.

I did a restore already, but I guess it wasn't far back enough. Might have to go farther. I hate to do that, but looks like I don't have a choice.

Yeah, as I just posted above, I tried that first. I guess I didn't go far back enough. Going to try it again. If that don't work, I don't know what to do.
