Fake Hanson Socket Trays

I got some Hanson socket trays off of ebay or so I thought. They do not say Hanson on them anywhere. Nor do they say made in usa. Are they fake or are they real? How do I tell? They have a patent number on them but that is is. Is this normal for the Hanson trays?

All of the hanson trays I've seen have "Hanson" clearly molded into the plastic.

Mine do not have anything molded in except the patent#, (unless it is under the decal) All of the other info is on a sticker/decal label that wraps from the bottom to the front edge.

I have never seen any colors other than gray or red. Perhaps those were made by Hansen under contract for another brand and the seller removed the label.

I have black ones - pretty sure I got them at Sears, too.

Hanson did have a customer that wanted it blue and black.
It's in their Discontinued section.

Now, you may need to contact them to see if those two colors had anything MOLDED into the plastic to help ID the trays.
But just by the photos. they look real.

At local car shows, a vendor sells what looks like Hansen trays for $5 a tray in 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 drive with a discount for volume sales. They look and feel identical to the regular Hansen trays except they're missing the little date/clock stamp on the bottom of the tray and they're sterile of part number, brand name etc. The colors, weight, and demensions make it a quality knock off if there is such a thing.

Well shoot. I just didn't proceed far enough along the checkout. I'm glad I didn't buy the one I needed yesterday in the store at 9.99 (a good price anyway). Saved a couple more bucks!

I'm feeling pretty good about this months CC. Got the deep 6 points I wanted, those nice bar clamps on a tray to complete my set.

must....stop.... buying (for awhile)

Lowes sell Red "Hansen" trays. They usually only have SAE ones. Matter of fact, I've never seen a metric one there. I have Grey and black ones from Sears. (Picked up the 1/4 ones on sale yesterday.) I did buy the HF knock offs. If you haven't read about these, well, they are far from great. They skip sizes that I consider normal (so does Hansen apparently!) and they do not have the post that goes thru the socket. I wish I could get them in YELLOW!!!

I really don't know why people keep posting that Hansen "skip" sizes. I've asked for clarification a couple of times but have received none. Maybe lots of guys are using those 37/64" sockets?

I think he meant that he and Hansen consider the sizes normal, but that the HF ones skip some sizes.

I thought he meant that the Hansens skip sizes and see that it could be read more than one way (feel free to clarify T56). Anyway, I wasn't trying to deride the poster of that comment, just that quite a few times lately guys have talked about Hansen trays 'skipping sizes'. That's why I took it to read the way I did and I still think that's what T56 meant to say.

I'll give a different perspective from someone that doesn't use them because, I feel they take up too much space and I don't like seeing my sockets upside down. I'll call it naked peg syndrome. There have been numerous post/threads about where to find a 4.5, 20mm, and 1/4 drive 5/8 sockets in shallow and deep sockets. It's not that they need the socket, It's that they want to fill up the Hansen rack!! I just find it funny that they want to fill up the rack even though they won't use the socket.

I dont think the black and blue ones are fake at all. Someone linked to a page from Hanson that clearly states they had an overrun of special order blue and black ones on clearance. Chances are the ebay seller bought a large quantity from them, and is selling them at a good deal on ebay.

Well, it's not that exactly. When the trays are full you can see anything missing with a glance.
I've been using F150 lug nuts to 'fill' my missing sockets, so I can see the missing ones.

But really, it never hurts to have all sizes. This week I used two sizes I almost never use. So having all couldn't hurt.

Of course, I keep getting sockets that don't fit in the series, like the /32 sockets and some really tiny metric.

No prob. I can see thinking he meant it the other way too. Fwiw, I have the Hansens and have found them to be the best solution for me (though I do fall into the category of "needing" to fill up the empty pegs).

My only problem with them is that the sockets go on with the square drive facing up. Many times I'll look at a nut or bolt (especially SAE) and not know what size it is. I always used to just be able to look in the socket on a rail and pick the corresponding size but now I have to pick them up and look at them. I know it is a relatively small complaint. Other than that, they've served me well.

lol. I've considered that, but have not added any Hanson trays to my organizational repertoire (yet). Whenever I seriously considered purchasing a set, the opportunity cost ended up being too high. Even now. $40 for four trays after tax and shipping, or Klein Kurve wire strippers, a locking socket rail, and a few minor odds and ends...
