Ground rod placement

Are there any regulations on how far the ground rods must be placed from a building being supplied by a sub panel? Also, are there any regulations on how far the rods must be from the service wire supplying the sub panel? I want to put the rods along the same path as the conduit for the building and I know that the rods must be 6' from each other, just haven't found anything about how far if at all the rods must be from the building.

In Va there was nothing mandated accept the 6' spread. The ground wire runs from panel to rod and then rod to rod. one is located directly under the meter base and the second 6' to the right just past a disconnect switch.

No restrictions. I have seen and put them inside buildings many times even.
Most times we just lay them in the trench with the feeder conduit. And to those about to tell me the restrictions on this, I know them. Our inspectors don't bat an eyelash.

Im gonna drive them in, but I was hoping I could keep it close to keep from having to buy so much bare copper and use the trench so I don't have to swing the sledge so much. Thanks for the answer.

I'd suggest calling 811 to get a utility locate before you drive the rods. Those things will go through a PE gas service line like it isn't even there. Probably do a number on your waterline or buried power too. Just sayin....better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the heads up, already done since I already started digging the trench. Nothing in the back yard as there is a creek right behind the house, so I'm good to go.

I placed my two 8ft rods no more then 5 inches from the shop foundation 6ft apart, tied them together then to shops subpanel case. Dont forget that the neutral floats at the subpanel if your power source comes from the main service panel like mine. I have a detached shop with a 60ft cable run.

I drive them in the trench, keeps them out of the way.

I drove mine right through the footings about 10' apart so they come up in the wall. Ov course I did this before it was poured. I will no shortly if it passes inspection.
