just wondering what everyone is using when they service/clean and lubricate their hand tools.

So Whats Your Favorite Lube?

I clean them with WD-40 and a cotton shop cloth, or brake cleaner if i've been working on something that should've been stream cleaned beforehand. For lubing ratchets i use clear lithium grease.

Same here, brake or carb cleaner and a shop towel, or WD-40 and a shop towel. For lubricating ratchets, etc, lately I have been using Miltech.

i clean them up with some brake clean. im trying out permatex ultra slick right now for a lube. so far it seems to work well.

I use amsoil synthetic bearing grease in my ratchets. As for what I lube my other hand tool with, none of your business.

Edit: bearing grease, not gear lube.

Bacon grease poured into an olive can. Don't forget to strain the grease or you will have bacon bits.

I generally use wheel bearing grease. If I have any, I use leftover grease/oil supplied with ratchet repair kits. One day I'll try the Permatex stuff.

I use amsoil synthetic gear lube in my ratchets. As for what I lube my other hand tool with, none of your business.

Actually, KY is pretty nice! It's water-soluble and quite a bit cheaper than silicone or similar non-oil based lubes. Plus, it's non toxic.

I use SuperLube synthetic grease with PTFE in all my ratchets (PN 21030).

It's clear, highly lubricious, non toxic, impervious to salt water, and has a temp range of -45 to +450 degrees.

Also, because it's clear, it's easy to tell if it's contaminated with dirt, dust, rust, metal filings, or other contaminants. It also seems to last for years without drying out.

But bottom line, I think any lube would do; as long as you clean and relube your ratchets with any reasonable frequency.

I have a rag soaked in 3in1 and wipe everything down with that before putting away.
I clean old oil and grease off first, with WD40.

Yeah, I light coating.

For linesman pliers, and diagonal pliers, I Coat them with Moly Di-Sulfide in an aerosol form. For everything else I use White Lithium grease.

+1 on the SuperLube. lasts forever and does not wander out and gunk your hands up.

SuperLube for tools. Foreplay for the confounding tall blond in the house.

You guys lube your rachets? I have the same ones from SEARS cman since 1990 work without fail. really no lube. I do alot of work not just occasional use.

Marvel Air tool oil in my ratchets. WD-40 or carb cleaner to clean tools unless they are really bad; then its brake cleaner for them.

Vehicles I like Valvoline

The girlfriend likes Vitamin E oil.

Just do what I just did...old SnapOn F720a, changing oil in my stupid SAAB 900 convertible, low ground clearance so I had the oil in an open pan, slipped and dropped the ratchet and socket in the oil and had to fish it out...what a gooey mess.
