What would you guys do

I have a decent collection of ratchets. I mostly just use dual 80 snap on due to the tight areas I work in at times and I prefer the fine tooth. The problem is I have a few ratchets that are the older 36 tooth that I would like to use but it's complicated due to the tooth count at times. I would just trade them but I have become attatched to them and don't know how I would feel about trading them in. Would you guys trade them or would you keep them and just buy the fine tooth to match? I just find myself needing to use these ratchets but it's hard since I work with the dual 80 every day

I guess if the low tooth count caused a problem I would either have them as backups or try selling them. Work on cars was done before dual 80's came out.

But what I or anyone else here would do wont fit your circumstance necessarily. Different budgets, how often we use them and many other reasons.

If you use what you have keep them and add an 80 tooth.
You say you use the 80 tooth every day so I gather it is not yours. ?????
I don't know anywhere you can trade them in. Depends on the dealer and brand. They might give you a shilling or a bob for them but what you get is not wroth getting rid of them.

I must have over 100 ratchets between by shops in California and Indiana. I have every brand and tooth along with every type.

I pick them up so cheap at swap meets and garage sales. I run estate sales and liquidate businesses now that I am retired. I get so many my grandsons sell them on Flee bay for spending money.

What brands do you have and how much can you get for used ones. In the end it is only going to be lunch money for a month.

Isn't the one with the most tools when he dies is the winner?

I'd sell them and get Dual 80s if that's what you want. I have no use for duplicates and I don't care for the older series pre Dual 80.

the picture I posted was only my coarse tooth ratchets. I have a 6 more ratchets that are dual 80. I wanted to get the standard 3/8, long 3/8 and the standard 1/2 drive with the grip all in dual 80. was just wondering if I should trade them in. its not like I need the money, I can buy ratchets. the only thing is that those ratchets were some of the first snap on ratchets I got an I wasn't sure if it would be worth keeping them around. I already have a dual 80 w/ grip to take place of the black handle ad the clear head is just show piece keep around. was just trying to get an opinion on weather its worth it, or should I just save them and buy replacemnts

Someone on here would probably pay more for those ratchets than you might get trade in on the truck. I'd ditch them in a heart beat for dual 80s, but I just look at them as tools. lol

I traded in some of my 32 tooth ratchets and took a bunch of them home and have a few backups left at work. Have a slew of dual 80's and a few round head 100tooths. Just keep em if your attached to them.

Seriously if you are going to sell them for pennies, I'd just find a family member or friend that could use a few nice ratchets

I don't think my dealer would give me much for them, although my old dealer would. I would get rid of some of them and use the money to replace them. ide rather have ratchets I could use rather then trying to use it and there isn't enough teeth to into tight areas. its just the fact that they are in really good shape and have been barely used I guess

Build customs (1/2" in 3/8" body or 3/8" in 1/4" type stuff) or sell what you don't use.

If they stay in one place, put a piece of tape on the underside of one. Write the date. If it sits for a year, sell it.

I put a lot of miles on my car and am changing the oil about once a month. I took an extra ratchet and the correct socket along with an extension and oil filter wrench and have it set aside as my dedicated oil change tools- so I'm not digging through the toolbox every time I change the oil. That's one way to use up an extra ratchet.. Then you have your tools in the basement- there's another ratchet. Tool kit in the truck- that's three. One at the cabin...son/daughter needs one...no such thing as too many ratchets, and 99% of the time a cheapie will do the trick. Keep 'em around and add to your collection if you need to.

Where does tooth count matter? If you're running snap on stuff you probably have all 12 point stuff (from what people on here say). So...tooth count shouldn't matter that much.

The only way a dealer gives much in trade is when you are paying MUCH for new tool to start with. List the tools you aren't using in the classified and get a fair price.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If I had this problem I'd be a happy man. Snap-On ratchet in the toolbox in the truck would be so nice. I freakin hate it when I have to use those garbage Crapsman ratchets. Don't get me wrong, my sockets are Craftsman because I'm not rich, but their ratchets ****. (and dad was a mechanic and all I ever used was a Snap-On ratchet.. spoiled from birth)

the tooth count is a big deal to me because as a lead diagnostic tech at my shop I find multiple times where a coarse tooth ratchet just doesn't have the arc swing and m not able to remove some bolts in confined areas. a few clicks of the ratchet head is better then one click at a time. ill just keep them as some extras. could probably use them on some of my older cars were space isnt so confined.
ive also had times where the bolt is hard to get to and the coarse tooth ratchet has too much resistance to spin, thus you have a bolt you cant "ratchet" out. fine tooth has very minimal resistance
