i haven't used those new-type ones but the bulk of my general purpose screwdrivers are "proto classic" (yellow acetate handles) and i'm really happy with those. i think around $60 is a fair price for an 8-piece set of proto drivers.

I have one of the tri-lobe drivers. Haven't used it much, but it seems very good quality and the handle is comfortable for me.

Don't know about them, I bought the 19 piece set from Amazon for $96.95 (as pictured)...Proto Screwdriver Set #J9600C

The Proto J9600DC and J9600DCP (same set includes Proto Bottle opener) are available for less than $ 70.00 at a lot of places (Amazon, ToolUp, ToolDiscounter, etc)

Personally, I like getting 10 or 11 MORE really good screwdrivers for less than three dollars a piece!!!

Buy the set from Amazon...however, Epstein's sells an 18 piece set (minus the gigantic slothead/prybar) for $65.00...that is probably the mostest for the leastest!!! Epstein's has more on closeout (click where it says more Proto)...they have a seven piece set for $ 27.50!!!!!!

No. those were made in England. They aren't as good as the new quad lobes.

The yellow handled Proto drivers are being phased out.

Couldn't agree more. I have this exact set (sometimes available at Princess Auto Surplus in Canada for $99) and they are amongst the best I have seen. The hardness of the tips are equal to Snap-On including the Phillips drivers. Assuming the Tri-Lobes use the same steel, you will not be disappointed. That said and probably no biggie, the Tri-Lobes do not have the hex bolster like the acetate handles.

Those tri-lobe Protos are very good screwdrivers. They give you lots of leverage for tight screws. Excellent tips too.

I have a 7 piece set of these that I picked up on Ebay for $37. I really like them, but the grips are on the larger side. The handle says they are made in England, but the blade may still be made in USA?

In my home box, I have the Blackhawk yellow handle drivers like the Proto's pictured above. I like them a lot, but the tips aren't nearly as nice as the Proto's.

Something like that 36 piece kit would be sweet but just don't have that spare scratch laying around for $330 in screw drivers lol.

The 36 piece set is WAY too much money...

Go to Epstein's and for $27.50 you can get 7 yellow handles that are made in the USA!!!

The tri-lobes will probably be just fine...

As I'm old, I have a tendency to ramble about good things I know and use...

I don't care much for them because: the first time you get brakeclean on the handle the white Proto markings vaporize and the grey rubber part of the handle gets gummy. The blades aren't bolstered. As someone else said, the handles are a little on the large side. the handles also seem to nick easily. however, your results may vary.
