If you still have the spindle or axle you could piece together a rotating table of sorts. Possibly add a few holes with a through pin so you could lock it into place.

Good for mounting on a piece of plywood and making a wheel painting or polishing set up. Much easier to do it off the car than on.

Teacher had us make a tool to measure rim runout using one and a chopped axle/magnetic dial indicator. Obviously not practical in every shop but it was cool to build. Pretty sure we just chopped that axle, welded the chopped end to some square tube and bolted it onto the hub which we left 3 studs in. Throw it in a vice mount a wheel and use a magnetic dial indicator while spinning it to measure any runout side to side/up and down..

All these ideas make me want to go to the junk yard now and pull a couple of rear axles off a front wheel drive car just to have handy for projects.

Hey, similar question for old disc brake rotors. I have two from a passenger car and two from a 2005 F-350. Big old hunks of steel in general. Any ideas for what to do with them?

I have some old vises that don't have a swivel base. I've thought about modifying an old rotor or brake drum to make a swivel base.

I had a bent strut with spindle and hub. It was Porsche with a brand only bolt pattern. Seems like it got used now and then and then I got rid of it trying to clean out and slim down. Haven't really missed it yet. However, I didn't toss the commercial cake decorator base I found in the trash.
