I bought this "Matco" tool cart off Craigslist last summer, not super impressed by it. But, I figured since it looked older, maybe that was why.... Then, I ran across this box, different brand, that looks identical. Less the Matco decals.

So, do I have an old Matco box that other companies copied, or did someone put Matco decals on a non-Matco box??

1st pic my box. 2nd pic NuLine box http://www.mscdirect.com/product/77858835

None of the truck companies build their own small carts like that, they are just someone else's product rebranded.

I cant realy tell what it is.
But i can tell you it has a sunex side table added to it, and what kind of looks like the sunex locking side screwdriver/prybar box. Cant realy tell.
But i have never seen a matco with those exspodes chrome square legs. Those look like sunex, and other brands legs aswell.
But what realy baffles me is the diff. handles from the top drawrs, and the bottom full with drawrs.

But i cant see it in person, so this what i can see from those pics.

But imo it looks exactly like this sunex cart here.
Part for part.

Did you get scammed? Depends on your version of scammed. If you bought the cart because of a name/sticker/emblem/badge, then yes you might have been scammed. If you bought it to use as a tool cart and it does it's job, then no you didn't get scammed.

It is a Sunex, they were in a Matco monthly sale flyer a few years back, most likely the dealer added the stickers, they were in the flyer as Sunex brand not Matco. I bought one and I think they were around $389 new. I kept the prybar box and sold the cart just a few months ago.

Does it still hold tools? I'm concerned about that because I'm sure you didn't just buy this because it had matco on the front; you bought it to store tools. If it doesn't store tools that would ****.

How much did you pay for the cart? Like others have said depends if you bought ut for the name or to use.

I'm pretty sure all the bottom tier truck brand carts are rebranded imports. NAPA had that cart labeled as a Homak on sale for 278$ iirc. The sad truth is that if you are shopping for a tool cart in that price range, the difference between ATD, Homak, Blue Point, is just dollars. Snap On lists one similar COO china and the rest are the same. It's a shame, in a way, that the trucks do this with their name on a tool box. They do fool a lot of people though.

The quality on them is decent so then it comes down to price point. The cart is probably worth no more than $150-200 tops. That might even be too much, depends on your area.

Thanks for all the great replies guys

Bottom line, I paid slightly more due to the brand name than I would have for a generic cart. That being said, the cart does work well for me (Holding electrical tools / test equipment, so I'm ok with it, just not super happy. Next time I'll pay a little more attention.

And; look forward to finding a great deal on a higher end box someday :bounce:

I did the same thing before I realized how the cheaper cart market works. Anymore when it comes to carts, I go for the absolute cheapest name on one. I'd still like to get a nice US cart, but until I find one I can afford, I'm not going to overpay for their name on an import.

If I recall correctly... Roger Rabbit had a large rack to put his tool on... not a cart...

Those look like the Sunnex add-on drawer kits. I added a couple to my plain-Jane cart for tool storage. I changed the handles though.....

The gauge metal used on those cars makes them feel a little flimsy but they hold up well. I stand on mine sometimes lol. Mine is probably close to ten years old.
