I have been looking for a good deal on a 15" adjustable wrench for awhile. Picked this up last week from a pawn shop for $10.

Got this off EBAY. Made in Taiwan.

You're going to love that Klein heavy duty driver, it's got some weight to it but good balance and silky smooth ratchet. I had to hide mine so it doesn't keep 'walking away' from my bench.

Had to do some work on the shop air compressor and put a new drain on it. Picked me up one of these baby pipe wrenches to tighten things under there. I have had several other times where something like this could come in handy so now I have one.:)

Nice. :)

Meant to ask, how much do tips set you back in .CA/CAN (not sure of the best nomenclature)?
And how long have recent production tips been lasting you?
Couldn't tell you what tips are worth these days. Except for the PTA7 tip that came in my new TC201T pencil, the youngest of my tips are 20+ years old (still got 3 of PTH7s in sealed packaging), and many of my tips date from the mid-70s.

Looking at places like Allied Electronics, their tip prices are currently listed at USD$3.76 each.

While I've replaced a tips over the years, mostly due to surface contamination of the plating, I suspect most of those tips could have been resurrected with a bit of cleaning work.

The only tips I've ever thrown out in 40 years of WTPCT useage were tips that were damaged by misuse (such as when an old-timer used a file to "dress" a tip, like he used to do with the tinned solid copper tips in his old style iron), the odd tip that was seriously overheated when the magnetic switch failed in the "on" mode, and the iron cooked at an unattended desk for what could have been days, and one that had the ferromagnetic cap come off.

This is a krl7022 so moving everything over from my old krl722 was a straight swap.
Here is a pic of my old box

Got this stuff off the Matco truck:
spacer.gif

Mountain Extra Long Flex-head Ratcheting Double Box Wrench Set
Matco bought them, evidently. The truck warranties them for life.

$112 was definitely worth the time I save over a chuck and gauge.

Streamlight Stylus Pro
MST5911.jpg

I thought these were stupid until I realized that Subaru's oil pan plugs have threads all the way to the end. I save a lot of rags and time with this.

From the Cornwell truck:
55927_2691-23-lg.ashx

Milwaukee M18 Cordless Li-Ion 3 Pc Kit. 3/8" Drive Impact, 1/2" Drill, and flashlight. 2 Batteries and a charger.

From Amazon:

SK 3/8" drive impact swivel sockets, 10-19mm

Thanks. :)

It's my understanding that either buying locally or importing from the US can make things rather expensive. So I didn't know how bad the shipping and perhaps customs costs would make an otherwise inexpensive part increase in cost.

As per the quality of the tips, I was going to mention giving Plato's equivalents a try if you were having any issues. Very similar in cost (usually slightly less expensive), and seem to have better (thicker) plating than some of what's coming directly from Weller for the LT series tips. Chinese made equivalents are showing up too. Testing out a couple to see if they're worth using in the future.

No equivalents for the NT series yet (if ever), so I've no choice for these.

Not blowing through them due to good care, but they seem to require a lot of rehabbing vs. what I recall in the past. Specifically, I'm finding I have to use tip cleaner/tinning compound fairly frequently, say once every couple of months, even with proper tinning using solder wire (Kester 44 - 63/37 alloy, 66 size rosin core). So unlike Weller's tips in the past, I'm not expecting to be able to get 10+ years out of them for hobbyist use. :(

Irons are used in a stop-n-go stand that sets the temp back to 200F as soon as it's inserted into the stand (soldering temp is 500F - 600F, so they're not being cooked to death).

Tip COO is all over the place, but most I've had issues with are from Bosnia FWIW (primary production plant for LT series; a couple of profiles from Japan, and all of the NT series are from Japan).

May not be an issue for you, as currently the PT tips are produced in Mexico.

BTW, you might want to take a look at Tequipment.net for Weller branded PT series tips (here). Given you seem to buy multiples, the savings might be worth it. Their warehouses are located in NY and PA, so shipping times might be a bit quicker as well.

Belated Christmas gift to myself but I thought i'd give these jewelry like suckers a try. I might post further impressions after I've got some use on them. Nice comfortable chrome handles though, very similar to Cornwell in feel. Heavy suckers too. Also the heads are manufactured to remove as much material as possible, they actually narrow towards the back. The flex uses something that looks very similar to a Teflon pad to hold constant tension. As it is now it works very well. No screw in the pin to tighten like a Snap-On. At $180 a pop (shipped-for just the flex) I think its, by far, the most expensive 3/8" ratchet I've ever purchased. I like the recessed QR button but in use its awkward pushing my finger into the ratchet head compared to a Snap-On or Cman where the button sticks out. Also not too keen on the Philips screws for the cover plate but anyone familiar with Japanese manufacturing will know they use them everywhere. Like I said I may comment more after I get some miles on it, didn't just buy them for show ;).

So they are "Mountain" branded or do they say Matco? Pics?

The story behind the "mountain":
A company produced them for Sk, but they didnt sell. With a bunch of stock still left the company sourced KD tool (I believe) but they wanted nothing to do with them. So they told EZ red about them. EZ red bought some and they took off like hot cakes. Now KD tool (Once again I believe) bought the wrenchs, stamps mountain on them and all the tool trucks sell them but snap on. Good wrenchs that come in VERY handy, but they are having some quality issues with the gear set up.

Your local Cornwell dealer is full of Kaka.

SK came out with a series of ratcheting wrenches called G Pro. These were made for SK by a company named KABO in Taiwan. As SK went under, demand for the wrenches allowed EZ Red to sell their Kabo made set. Now mountain and steelman and others market their kabo made sets.
By the way, ask your Cornwell dealer who makes their ratcheting wrenches? Kabo makes them for Cornwell. KD tool and Gearwrench had nothing to do with the G Pro wrenches or the XL flex head wrenches.

I knew Kabo made them. I have a set of the "Klutch" brand from NorthernTool. I don't have a local Matco guy and the nearest Cornwell guy is an hour away (probably same on Matco). I only get to frequent the Snap-on truck weekly.

Being Matco's long spline drive wrenches they've sold for year are made by Kabo, maybe the truck guys can get the "Mountain" brand ones made up too? Or maybe his Matco guy is dedicated to serving his customers and goes through Mountain on the warranties.

I had heard nothing about Matco buying Kabo or the rights to those wrenches, so that is why I asked the OP if they said "Mountain" or "Matco" on the wrenches.

Stopped by HF today. looking for an easier way to cut sheet metal rather than my grinder. Picked this up, with an extra blade. Says "Up To 14 Gauge", I'm only cutting 18, so I figure for HF, it will probably work as much as I would use it. Saw the nut/bolt gauge, and figured why not. Could always use one, and I never have it.

Got these today at a local pawn shop snap on prybar set for $65 and a set of blue point pliers for $15.

That's a good deal. Pawn shops round here want new prices for name brands.

It's the same here they think just because it's a brand name tool they can over price it thinking people will buy, but most people that buy these brands know what they go for new and it's sometimes cheaper to get it new then used.

Ordered the Milwaukee M12 cordless ratchet today.. but no pictures yet. Bought CPO Milwaukee, $119 for the kit. Supposed to be here Wednesday.

Ok, so maybe I bought too many 1/4" extensions.. amazon strikes again, haha

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KICSGQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Right angle drive attachment.. hoping it will help me get to some ridiculously hard to get to bolts on a car I'm working on. Just to run them down.. doubt it'll handle much torque

haha..yeah, kind of

I have a few bellhousing bolts on a BMW I'm working on that are going to be a !@#$% to get to, so I bought a 1/4" flex socket (torx size which only snap-on had of course) and needed some 1/4" extensions to go with them. Amazon had a set of normal ones and set of long ones.. I figured for ~$20, I might as well get both. Didn't realize quite how much "extension" they were capable of. Oops

Which BMW are you working on? If you havnt already broken the bolt loose, youre not going to with a bunch of 1/4" extensions.

not quite NEW but newly discovered in a big cigar box from my grandfather when they moved. he knows i like working on older stuff so whenever i get some old tools from him, i'll shoot him a picture of whatever im working on and 'just happen' to leave one of his old wrenches in the picture and he gets a kick out of it.
"Super Quality" 1/2-9/16 deep box end. never heard of them but its made in the US so im not complaining, looks like a good distributor wrench.
IMG_20140118_140903_013_zpscj2pfxed.jpg

Penens Corp 11/16-19/32 open end, i think they were a Proto company but im not sure
IMG_20140118_141922_282_zpsvao7cln9.jpg

7/16-3/8 Herbrand open end, Indestro 7/16-3/8 box end, 5/16-9/32 and 3/16-1/4 P&C brand

Indestro 25/32-3/4 box end

And a set of Crafstman full polish SAE ignition wrenches, along with a lone Armstrong
