I bought this brake from the Kansas City Kansas Public School District. It was in an industrial tech classroom at one of their high schools. I actually got it a year ago, but never got around to posting it. The roller bearings at the pivot point were both trashed, and by trashed I mean the rollers were all gone and the outer race had sections missing... I finally got around to sourcing new bearings last week and replaced them today.

In case anyone has one of these brakes and needs new bearings and can't read the stampings on the original, I figured I would provide the info. The originals were Torrington B-1816. There is also an inner race, Torrington IR-1816 (I was able to reuse the inner races). The original part number is available under the Koyo brand name. I paid about $28 for the two new bearings at Applied Industrial Technologies\Associated Bearing.

I didn't get the greatest deal on this brake, but it is complete and now functions great. I have right at $450 into it. What do you guys (and gals) think?

I'm such a sucker for old brakes. 450 is a deal for an American made brake of any size. Any plans to paint the original green?

She is a beaut!

You may be a sucker for old brakes, I am a sucker for pretty much any and all old Pexto equipment. My favorite has to be the 1928 Pexto 676a Punch I have. Such amazing designs.

I have no plans as of now to repaint it, but I may repaint/refurb all my old Pexto stuff at some point in the future.

Oh you ******! You stole that for 60 bucks!

holy ****! :scared:

I agree. Pretty sure I saved it from the scrap yard. I figured it would go higher than I was willing to go, so I wasn't paying any attention at first until I realized it was about to sell for scrap price. I HAD to jump on it and save it!

What will you make with it?

I don't have a project lined up right now. I am too busy these days. I work full time and am currently a mentor for a high school robotics team (FIRST Robotics). I volunteered to do their machining. They are a first year rookie team with only about 10 students.
