KRL722 What to expect from a dealer?

So here soon I hope to get a new box. I've outgrown the Craftsman and would like to get what will likely be my last box. Really like the KRL722 setup but I'm not sure I can spring for it. Fallback position is gonna be an Extreme Tools box more than likely. Occasionally I see posts leading me to believe the dealers can do pretty good on these. Since I don't work at a shop, I don't have ready access to a dealer.

Just curious, what would you expect to pay for a KRL722 off the truck if it were a cash sale?

Thanks,
John

My driver has claimed his cost on them is $2700. I've talked him down to $3500 cash... at an easy $1000 over buying a used one cash, not cheap enough for my taste.

Your price will depend entirely on your dealer, how friendly they are and how willing they are to deal. It will also help immensely if he goes to the shows Snap-On periodically has every year. Name a price (realistically ~3-3.5k) and see what happens.

I bought one that was a month old from my dealer for $2600. The original buyer hated the matte finish.

I paid $3000 new for mine, then about two months later my old dealer had a group but on them for $2500. This was about four years ago now. It's a nice box, the only thing I dislike is all the shallow one inch drawers.

If you are paying cash I see no reason to go through a dealer. Craigslist will get you the best box at the cheapest price.

$ 2995 + tax. Usually a $ 250 rebate if you finance thru snap-on credit. That seems to be the best deal you'll get on a new one.

I Paid $1200 for mine. :bounce:
Needless to say...Long story...and quite frankly not a normal story, so I'm fully aware I'm outside of the norm...
Skin is right tho...if your dealer attends the Shows and conventions, that's where deals are had. From what I was told, that's where the story of my box begins...

LOL...I'm Jealous...seriously I am. I bought this box solely because of the "Stupid not to buy it at that price" factor... Truth be told, Its not what I wanted....not the color I wanted, not the size I wanted..I woudla preferred a 1023...

At the price you bought it, you cant go wrong. You can flip in on craigslist for $ 3200 when a deal on a 1023 pops up like mine

I bought mine for the same reason

The rock and roll snap on truck was at my shop last week, went on it to see if they were offering any killer deals, lol $4963 for a KRL722 with no add-on's. I laughed and walked off

I would love to meet these dealers you guys talk about. I have a good relationship with my dealer and know what his markup is and margins. He sells every box he touches for within 10% of list. I guy I worked with had bought over $100k in tools from this dealer and upgraded boxes a couple years ago. He bought a second KLR 1023 and paid list on it. He wouldn't even discuss a discount. I have been interested in several boxes that have been on the truck for a long time, and he doesn't budge on the price. He is doing very well with his business, so people must be buying. KLR's on craigslist here in the Pacific Northwest never go for less than $2000 even in trashed condition. I think there is a lot of BS in the air around here about toolbox prices.

I used to have a corporate dealer, so his price was unbeatable compared to any other dealer or franchisee, now recently lost the corporate guy cuz some new franchisee bought the route and he's been pretty good especially with the krl722

I've cruised CL for a few cities within few hundred miles. Prices vary a good bit. It seems the SnapOn boxes around me must have more gold content in the metal. They generally seem high.

Back a while I read a post quoting the ~3k range for a 722 so that's what got me to post this. I wasn't sure if that was a fluke or somewhat realistic. Guess I may step on a truck the next time I see one parked and find out how they are around here.

There isn't though. Your dealer is just a hard *** and its being reinforced by the fact that hes doing so well. Tool boxes can be had for incredible discounts at the conventions and, were I a dealer, i'd pass quite a bit of the discount on to my route as well looking at it like they'll need tools to fill the new boxes. The deals are absolutely real though. Its one of the fluff areas of all the truck brands where the prices are inflated more for show/prestige. Same as buying a car on a lot full of the model you want. There is always wiggle room. Keep in mind with a tool box, in the end, you're still just buying bent steel and plastic.

I would just call the dealer and arrange a meeting. meet him in person so he will know you are serious and just lay it out you don't need financing and you know what you want all you need is a price. most guys have a shop full of boxes and will probably have one or something close they are willing to unload at a good price if you are paying cash and he doesn't have to worry about collecting his money.

Lemme guess, SO truck is pretty much the only one that visits your shop.
IMHO, it’s the biggest downfall of protected territories when you’re a buyer, obviously ZERO Competition with any other SO Dealers, and if you don’t have any other trucks servicing you, whoever does is free to charge what they want. I think what helps my area out is we have a MAC guy who is more than willing to wheel & deal on boxes….he’s converted a lot of SO guys over to Macsimizers and Matco seems to do well too. Hate to call them crooks, it’s their business to run as they see fit. Franchisee pays Well below MSRP obviously, and on top of that there are rebates, promotions, specials, etc.. thing is they are not obligated to pass them on. Some dealers see those promotions as a promotion to pass on, other see it as “hey, maybe I’ll get that new Harley I was looking at”. Best analogy to use when dealing with truck boxes is New car shopping. Only difference between the two is there aren't any commercials on TV or mailings telling you there's a $1,000.00 GM Customer Loyalty Bonus on top of a $4,000 buck trade in rebate and such.

My old SO Dealer quit…and even when I met another SO Truck guy he gave me a quote on a KRSC100 WELL above 10% off…. Like anything else, your market is different then someone else market. Its why I feel the best place to buy any toolbox new or used is off a truck. If your franchisee doesn’t deal, then I can see why people turn to CL.

Most of the time snap on credit has double rebates when you finance plus 90 days same as cash could save some $$$

When I bought my 1022 last year I ran into this. I was going to pay cash for the box but I saved an extra 500 just by going thru the snap on financing. I have the driver a huge down payment then financed the rest. I waited a month till all the paperwork cleared then went and paid off the box.

My box was also a convention box and the dealer was ready to move it. Paid just over 3000 for it brand new. It was delivered right to my house as I'm not a shop tech just a weekend warrior.

I think the problem here isn't the rebates or incentives...its the dealers who don't pass em on. The way I see it is double of Zero is still Zero in terms of how some of the franchisee's price & deal boxes.
No different then the batch of 99 buck tools last year... My truck had them for 99, my BIL paid $139.99 in another area...

I can't tell you what your local dealer will do but you should be able to find a nice 54" double bank KRL roller for $1200 to $1700 or so with a little searching and dealing.

Even if you can get a new box for $3000 to $3500 you will likely struggle to get $2000 for it if you need to sell it in a couple years. That's still a lot of depreciation considering it won't wear out like a car.

A pro who uses a box every day and can write off tool expenses may come out with new but otherwise it seems a losing deal.

Unless you're in a poor area two grand for a 722 in mint condition is pretty standard.

I have a flawless krl761 in bright yellow that I have listed on CL in the Cedar Rapids iowa area for $2600. I've had 2 calls in 2 weeks. I am below the local market price wise and as I stated the box is flawless. If it doesn't sell on CL do I try to trade it in to S/O? Do they give you a fair trade amount or do they rip your lips off? I've never traded one in so this might be my baptism of fire.

I thought snap on didn't give a cash discount...you know so they can bend you over with the interest. Sorry, not just snap on but it's a known known. That's why they always ask you at retail stores if you want to open a credit card at 22% apr so they can bend you over and get you to spend money you don't have.

I actually haven't drunk the kool aid on that but it probably doesn't go over so well if you pay it off then keep charging.
