Eaton/Polar Air Compressor

I am about to pull the trigger on an Eaton/Polar 7.5 hp., 80 gallon,2 stage,4cylinder air compressor. Does anyone have any real world experience with one of these? They are a 640 rpm pump unit so they should be able to be cooled easily and they put out 26 scfm @100 psi. Anyone have any thoughts on them? Thanks in advance.

Did you purchase the compressor? I am also looking for info on the same compressor as well as a Schulz compressor with similar stats. Hope somebody has input.

They are supposed to be pretty good. Assembled in USA, Ohio actually, pretty close to my hometown. The pumps are saylor beal clones, i can recall if the motors are Chinese or what, but they are very upfront about their disclosure, check their website.

I have an 80 gal. and love it. I've had it for about three years with no problems. It was highly recommended to me and I was impressed that all of their staff have work and cell phone numbers listed on their website in case you need to speak with them. What company does that anymore? Most push it out the door and the deal is done.

I would not be too keen on buying a compressor of that size with a no name Chinese pump.

(Even the larger HF compressors come with IMC pumps made in Italy)

How much are you saving over an equivalent Quincy or Champion unit?

Well, I guess if you’re going to clone a pump, Saylor-Beall would be the one. Hell, in my opinion, they are one of the best. Just don’t understand how they get away with that. The Polar / Eaton mentioned by the OP looks remarkably identical to the Saylor-Beall 707 pump and it looks as though they did the same with the 705. As far as I’m concerned, the pump is 90% of the unit itself, the rest is nothing more than accessories.

Here is an excerpt from the Eaton Product Disclosure Form:

Starting October 28th, 2008, we are putting an American flag sticker on the items that are made in the USA. For example, our tanks are made in the USA, so we have placed an American Flag Sticker on the tank that states this tank is manufactured in the USA. These stickers will be placed on every item that is made in the USA. This gives the consumer a clear direction when purchasing our compressor on how much of the complete unit is made in the USA.

Looks like the only items made in USA is the skid and the belt guard…Lol

I’m sure if they copied that pump to a “T” and didn’t scrimp on the internals, it probably is an excellent air compressor, but again, probably didn’t happen.

It sure is a great looking compressor and I’m not saying it’s not good, but it’s just not the genuine REAL DEAL Saylor- Beall Made in the USA.

I think that a "made in the USA" sticker anywhere on the unit would be interpeted by 99% of people as the whole unit was US made. The other 1% are lawyers. I would be more impressed if they also put PRC stickers on any part made in China.

I looked long and hard at the Eaton/Polar Air unit you listed.

Ultimately I bought a Puma. At the time I felt it had a better price point and more than adequate specifications for my needs. I have been very happy with it.

Yes, And they have problems with oil leaks.

I ended up purchasing an Eaton 7.5hp 80 gallon last November. Compressor is very quiet and works just like I wanted it to. Runs my 20cfm sand blast cabinet with ease. Also had something strange happen that I'm not used to, was using an air disc sander to clean up a project and the compressor shut off! Immediately got my attention but then realized it was full. Love this compressor so far!

Someone posted a while back some parts from a "real" Saylor Beall and a chinese copy. I don't know who was selling it but anyhow while the outside the two looked almost the same, the internal parts / design used were noticeably different.

I think it all comes down to the old adage, "You get what you pay for"...

Are they a bad pump? Probably not if they sell so many of them. But without examining the parts against a real one and seeing how they last over the long-term, you can't just say it's as good as a saylor beall.

I am looking into the 7.5 HP V4 80 gallon.

Eaton told me it will take the Saylor Beall rebuild kits.

Their BBB rating is A+

Overall, they seem to have supported their product 100%+ from the stories I've seen.

Can you point out the link for that?

My experience, to get a Saylor Beall with Disc valves is about $1000 + more.

I work at a brewery and most of my machines run on our polar air. We have the 3 phase 20 hp rotary screw with a 450 gallon tank. The thing runs all day everyday. Have had it for over a year and have changed the oil, that's it. Programming is easy. Calling the company and talking with the tech guy is just as easy.
