Finally a promising sale local to me and everyone decided tomorrow is the best day of the week to have meetings. I'll be looking here tomorrow to see what rickster found!

Made it there and the place was cleaned out. Guy was rolling the toolbox out of the garage right when I walked in. Oh well. There's an awesome art deco blackhawk jack though. Probably would have come home with me if it wasn't $175.

Well, I woke up early to go to a sale and here is my humble haul. They didn't advertise any tools FYI. Turned out to be grandma's house and everything for sale was in 3 rooms. :( I spoke to the daughter and she said her dad had every tool imaginable but the garage collapsed a few years ago during the ice storm. Her mom had the property bulldozed and nothing was gone through or salvaged. Another :(.

So here we go: thumbtacks
paintbrush (originally 3.98 )
USA ignition pliers
partially full oil can
Partial role of brown paper to hide my shameful purchases.

All for 2 bucks.

First one in the door this morning and picked these tools up. The larger Snap-on hand box has the interior sliding tray and is packed with all the add-ons for a digital volt meter and a Williams ignition wrench set in a red tool roll-up.

Rickster: you are a legend sir and still rolling. some of the guys predicted you would be posting the best stuff from the sale and you did. i'm guessing you have to or three of you so you can be first in the door at any estate or auction you choose to attend.

very nice quality stuff sir and congrats.

Thought about it for a bit and decided to go back and make an offer on the jack since it was complete and they took it. Cost as much as a new Arcan from Costco :)

Now to get rid of my last garage sale jack since I really only need one project jack.

Rickster,
Nice job again,as usual.I was probably punching in at the time clock while you were having coffee with the Estate Sale folks. You do work hard and earn the right to be first at the sales.I am envious. It just ***** knowing there is a very good chance you have already been and departed before I even can think about getting to a sale.Someday(15 + years from now) if I am lucky I will be able go give up working and then I can try estate sailing/tool chasing as a time consuming hobby.
Please do not take this as I am being mean-spirited,just envious. After all I think we'd all like something to do other than work. I know from other forums sometimes tone cannot be revealed in text.

Great save Shadow! Very cool jack!

Is that the one with the headlight built into the business end?

Got to an estate sale today an hour before opening and my number was #57.

It was cold so I waited in the car until about 5 minutes before the start. A line started to form in the front and I saw a few folks going to the back to take a look around the house. I was thinking I would have to leave before I was let in as I had to get to work.

Rather than stand in line I headed to the back to take a look and discovered the garage opened early and the didn't care what number you had. Wish I got out of the car 10 minutes earlier. I missed a 4" Parker vise for $25 but got a powr kraft tool chest for $35. They sold me the contents for $65 more. More than I wanted to spend on the tools but it was still a good deal combined with the tool box. They just opened so not much room to negotiate.

Also picked up a 18" Williams adjustable wrench for $10 and two craftsman wrenches for $5.

I normally would have skipped the sale due to the distance but I happened to be in the area for a training and always check local sales when I travel.

By the time I got out if the garage they had let everyone into the house (that was fast) and unfortunately the tool I was most interested in (Stark watch makers lathe with cross slide) was sold by the time I got to the basement.

I may end up going back Saturday to do some digging.

Some photos

Box is 26" x 13" and 14" tall. Full extension friction slides.

All drawers are smooth

I never heard of this brand but I'm pleased with the quality. Just needs a light cleaning

And here are the contents. I knew there was an SK socket set and some
Craftsman drivers and wrenches but did look until now to see what other tools were included.

Lots of sorting to do

And here are the wrenches I purchased separately. 1 1/16 - 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 - 1 5/16

Looks like some good stuff matt  I might have let them keep the used mustard salad plate though. The box is essentially a 50's craftsman box.

Shadow, you did the right thing.... and YOU ****!!! Sweet Jack man!!!

Read this: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141546&highlight=blackhawk+jack

Thanks for the link. Almost all of the google searches come back to GJ for this jack.

That is a classy looking jack.

I agree. That's the coolest jack I've ever seen!!

You ****!!

Sweet score:drool:!!! That is definitely a classy jack.

Thanks guys.

It just ***** knowing there is a very good chance you have already been and departed before I even can think about getting to a sale.

There's a place around here doing evening sales that we might have a decent shot at. It's still worth checking out the others on the first day since sometimes the prices are too much for resellers but okay if you're going to use the tools yourself. I've usually had better luck lately at garage sales, especially the ones that start on the weekend.

Glad you went back and they accepted your offer.Something like that would haunt me if I wanted it and did not make an effort to go back,I would always wonder what if....

That's why I went back. I can think of a handful of things that I should have gotten but didn't (like a newer $200 roller Snap-On).

it isn't ,but the one i'll be showing off soon is:thumbup:

I can't wait to see yours. I didn't even know these existed until today.

Those are really cool, does it work as is or does it need work?

I haven't tried lifting a car, but everything looks like it's working to me. It went up, down, and the handle all worked. I don't have the key for it and there was a puddle in the garage so it probably has to gone through, but I think it's going to be interesting to do it. It won't the jack I use most often.

Rather than stand in line I headed to the back to take a look and discovered the garage opened early and the didn't care what number you had. Wish I got out of the car 10 minutes earlier.

I've noticed that too, I usually hang around the garage or ask guys if they'll open it early.

Is that hte way they are supposed to be painted?
No, the pictures I've seen show it solid red with just the letters painted. The tag isn't supposed to be on the cover either.

I was able to get to one sale this morning and it wasn't half bad. Got in as number 2 on the list and grabbed my Rock Island prize right away. The price i paid included the super stout stand but i didn't pack my jackhammer so i had to leave it at the house.

If i get a chance, ill go back for it later this weekend. The rest of the stuff was just odds and ends. Lots of lathe cutter inserts but no lathe, or mill:headscarf

Some starrett tools, like the dial test indicator, hook rule w/ drill bit angle attachment, protractor, wire gauge and others

Kwikset 400 line keying kit

1" NPT tap

Craftsman BE ¼" ratchet

Columbian combo pipe jaw inserts, or at least 2 of the pieces from a 3 piece set

Elkind metric hex key set

Old andirons

Antique brass entry handle

Stanley scribe tool/height gauge. I can't find any info or markings beside Stanley on a thumbwheel. The posts can slide in either direction with the small cutting ends which rotate as well.

Possible drop light? The cord comes out but the end has been cut. There is no other area to introduce power so i guess its just an portable drop light. Its kinda clunky but neat nonetheless

Demon brand axe

Scored a nearly new Craftsman Pro P1 screwdriver and a 3/16" standard screw driver. Also picked up a Craftsman nail puller and Stanley USA nail puller- all for $6.

Big Caddy: another nice day at the sales and a big Rock Island to add to your collection. just curious what that cool looking piece is for that is on that back of your tailgate just to the left and below your kwickset key changing box? all those old school handles with the nice round ends looks great, but I couldn't figure out what it does?

I am thinking a chain tightener to hold down a big load on a flatbed truck?

There is a pair of andirons and the chain binder looking thing is something to do with screw production. It's got a name cast into the side but I'll get to it tomorrow

I saw this thing and it looked cute and I just had to have it. (Sharpie for size ref)

Union square, once again didn't need it but it deserved to be saved of its fate of rust and grease.

Can never have too many clamps and the cost of buying new is ridiculous.

Did you just use the word "cute" in reference to a tool?

Go stand in the corner and deducted 32 man points :bitchslap

Hahaha, I had the same thought as I typed that and continued anyways. I think it is ok if I call my own wrench cute, but not ok if another man calls my wrench cute. Those are the rules I'm living by anyway.

Hmmm what have I got worthy of resuracting that one?

On that topic, Mav; is that pipe wrench under 6"? If so please post it there!

Short list today, keeping my fingers crossed... leaving NOW!

So how did you make out? I had my sale then hit 4 pawn shops and an indoor flea market and all I came home with was lunch :lol_hitti
