Hi all, have a 16 wide by 14 high steelcraft overhead commercial td 134 sectional panel, door.

looking for your experiences good or bad, if you owned a jackshaft mounted liftmaster industrial or manaras opera opener.

Door company that supplied the door sent me the manaras opera h (oph) model with 1/2 horse opener.

I haven't heard manaras name much, but then haven't looked at openers before.

I noticed that some big shops are using liftmaster industrial duty model openers, and some people said they are more money and are trouble free, I am seeing more of the liftmasters around.

Wanting to know if you have had any reliability problems with yours?
How long you owned them, opened doors a lot in a day etc?

Good or bad experiences dealing with the company if you had major or minor problems.

I still have the option of getting a liftmaster if I want one, so curious as to your opinions, tried the search couldn't find anything.

thanks for all replies

I just took a liftmaster down and replaced it with a belt drive opener. I loved the clean look of the jackshaft opener and the clearance I had. The issue is the jackshaft is only good when it is warm outside (only 6 months a year here) and with a perfect operating door. When the cold came the rollers tend to bind and the cable pops off the torsion shaft. If you don't know what you are doing its real easy to damage the door beyond repair. My brother has been a garage door guy for 20yrs now and they love the follow on sales as a result of the openers (repairs, door panels!).

With that said I do plan on putting it back up in my shop once I build it. The door will not be used often and I will be cognoscente of the limitations.....manual open during cold periods.

If you keep your garage heated it will be fine.

Hmmm???
I have 4 of the LiftMaster residential openers, coldest winter here in many years and I have had zero problems with any of them.

I have a Manaras. About 6 years old now and not one bit of trouble.
I did have to back off on the torsion spring adjustment so the door would come down.
I also raised the rear of the horizontal track to clear my top car on my 4 post lift.
My door is 8' x 16'.
Originally, I had the 3 button control switch wired so that I had to hold the open or closed button for the door to do a complete cycle. I have no safeties on this door.
Then I put a remote control on it and had to rewire so the door will do a complete cycle, open or close.
I always make sure nothing or anyone is in the way of the door when I cycle it.
You can add a safety strip to the bottom of the door to stop it should anything be in the way.

p.s. reading the manaras site, they now come with photo eyes and remote controls.

so the manaras and liftmaster would be comparable then for reliability, noise, and servicing, etc?
I just noticed the manaras opera h (oph) has the hoist-a-matic self engaging chain hoist for manual operation which simplifies installation and operation.
I might keep the manaras, unless there are a lot of problems with this brand, I do like the liftmaster also.
keep the replies coming. thx

I take it that this door is either high lifted or vertical lift? Commercial jackshaft openers (not the 3800 or 8500) really shouldn't be used in standard lift installations.

That being said...if you have the Manaras and can't return it, I would use it. Given a choice, I would take the Liftmaster, but the Manaras should suffice. Being in Canada, support and parts will be much easier for you than it is here should you need it because they are much bigger there than here.

Hopefully that will be my experience. I live in western Canada where the temps last year (the coldest in 100 years) were -30C (or colder) overnight for 40 consecutive days. That is enough to deal with, without a failed garage door opener. :)
