2 more that I forgot about!

Cornwell seat at the flea market for $5. This is what I have always needed for doing brakes and working on small engines.

Cornwell and powr kraft 1/2 inch drive ratchets both for $5 at the flea market.

I am so excited I found this forum and this thread in particular so that I can share my finds with somebody other than my wife. She doesn't get too excited :dunno:

I go to yard sales, estate sales, auctions, and the flea market all the time but just recently decided I needed more tools and it has become quite the addiction! I'll post up whatever else I find this year! Cheers!

CT: welcome to GJ. it looks like you are getting some nice stuff on your stops and thanks for sharing. what part of the world are you located?

Bluebolt: killer deals and looks like it might have filled up a trunk or pick up bed. also nice dead rat story to find some Snap on tools.

Some major hauls and "you *****" from you guys this week

Been pretty much a wash out with all the rain lately, very few sales on and even fewer tools.
Did manage to pickup a complete set of SAE ring spanners, made in West Germany for £2.
Then picked up an "ugly mug" and an old lab stool.View media item 37553
Apologies for sideways picture.

Yeah my Excursion doesn't get great mileage but with the seats folded down I can get a lot in it!

Yeah the dead rat was sitting on his stash of pecans which pretty well covered the puller set.

It's been very quiet around here for sales advertising Tools. We went to an Estate Sale yesterday and I found a small carry box full of older tools.

My normal M.O. is to pick the bits I want out and buy them individually. Today I grabbed the box and go it for $10.

There were some Craftsman BE items in the box. The 1/2 driver is frozen and there are a few 1/2 drive sockets. I noticed that the sizes are indicated in 1-2 not 1/2 like some of my other BE stuff.

The 1/4 driver works but needs a cleaning. It ratchets when the lever is in one position and free-wheels when it's in the other. I assume that's normal?

There were a number of "monkey" wrenches and pipe wrenches in the box. The wrenches left to right are: Coes, WJ Ladd, GTD, JP Danielson and 2 Modern Drop Forge "Stillsons" with wooden handles. I'm bummed - the littlest pipe wrench's frame is broken near the adjuster.

The box is a little banged up and is missing what I assume to be the leather handle. Are there replacements available or do I find a cobbler?

Cheers

Jim

I'm just outside Denver, Colorado. Luckily we had nice weather nearly every weekend in January so a lot of garage sales were going on and the flea market was full of sellers.

Also for christmas my parents gave me this Columbian Wood working vise. It was in my grandparents basement in their shop. I can remember it being on the work bench as a child. I didn't know my parents had it until I mentioned to them my memory of it and they said they had it. Super stoked on this. Can you guys tell me how old it is?? It is in reasonably good shape and will be used very respectfully!

CT, Wow, agree with the others; one heck of a first GJ post! Not many get a usuck on post one! Gotta agree! I think you will fit right in around here! I have to ask; does the CT stand for initials, or are you into Honda CT 90's, or both?!

Jim, ordinarily a female ratchet like those it would be ratchet action one way free wheel the other and flip to reverse. if it has a switch though, the switch should work like a "modern" ratchet. give them both a soak, (can they be easily disassembled?) a cleaning and a lube I'l bet they come back to life!

Jim and Smiokeshow I'm envious of the "Long C" ratchets! very rare to find those since most probably got traded in as son as they died...

Skip slip: Great find on the armature lathe! does the flat belt drive the armature "iron" directly? May I ask what you paid? I love old specialty tools like that!

yes, flat belt goes over the motor pulley and around the fat part of the armature. weight of the motor causes the tension on the belt. very low tech deal.

Another round belt like a sewing machine belt replaces the flat belt for the undercutter.

These are still made today and sell for about a grand.

I bet the belts will cost about as much as I paid for mine

Take that ratchet apart and clean it up, springs could be stuck... the handle on that box probably was leather. Don't know of anyone making repo's, but I have a local guy that can make one if he has one in his hand. Do some homework on the box, see if it was originally a crescent shape or u shape handle, I'll see if he can make another. He charged me $30 for a U shaped one.

No sales for me today, but I am finally getting round to posting yesterdays. 1st sale was a bust. 2nd sale was not very big but I picked up a couple of files, a hammer, adjustable wrench and a set of easy out's. Just cheapo stuff but better than what I have, which is nothing. $5 for those. 3rd and 4th sales were also a bust, and 5th sale I almost didn't go to due to the weather. What the hell. It turned out to be the most fun. A real pickers place. I didn't get much but I spent only $11. The haul included body hammer (bonney), screwdriver, 8" fan, clipboard and a floor jack. The old man had a truck shop and his son (about 60) runs it now.
I will need help with the jack. It doesn't work and has spent many years out in the weather. But for the price I figured what the hell. If you can ID it for me that will be a start.

The plate and the drill came from last week and cost me $5 total.

Craptain, The jack handle screams Walker to me, but the jack frame does not... I think you need better detailed pics of the lifting guts to get an ID from the jack experts.

Yes I will get better pictures when it is out of the car and in the shop. I know absolutely nothing (yet) about jacks.

Figured since last year I lurked so much in the 2013 thread I'll join in the fun this year and share my find with other tool-o-holics.

Hit a local estate sale friday morning that advertised a lot of Snap On and Mac. Grabbed myself a dial indicator, a Snap On F731A, a bronze? 24oz hammer, two clear handled Snap On pocket screwdrivers, one too far gone, and a SK 1/2dr extension and a SK 3/8dr swivel. Oh, and still in the box a Screw Ball ratcheting screwdriver still in the package, I blame this site on why I grabbed it, cause I remembered seeing it on here before.

Galvonzo, what is the part No. / year code on that flex head SO? That looks to be the same one I got as a B-day gift back when I was first in racing. One of my first SO tool sand absolutely my first new one! Still one of my main go-to ratchets.

Picked this up for $2 earlier. Half of the 4pc battery service kit with the roll. Has the pliers and terminal cleaner, but no brush or wrench. Random punch was in one of the spots...

I always hum "I said hello Dolly, well hello, Dolly" every time I use mine. I was in the musical in high school. Just to impress a girl I swear.

Uuh, cool jack by the way.

I did disassemble, clean and lube the 1/4" drive ratchet. It now ratchets in both directions. One of the pawls was hung up with some really stiff goop. Now I need to find a 1/4" drive stud to use in it . . .

The 1/2" drive ratchet is RIVETED closed - so I need to try the non-invasive method. The backside is really rusty - so we shall see if I can get it loose. The writing on the 1/2" drive is not the long C writing - and Alloy Artifacts doesn't show anything like it . . .

Thanks for the information on the handle. I'll do some research and figure out what I'm gonna do about a new handle. The box is rough so it's probably a strip and redo. There are no badges so I'm not thinking it's a Craftsman.

It probably helped that my 15 year old son who I dragged along kept saying "please don't buy it. I'm not going to be able to lift it" while I was negotiating the price. After settling on $10 we pulled out each drawer, dumped contents into trash can and carried 3 at a time to the truck. Then after a few trips the two of us could handle the main unit. Next time I bring my truck I'm going to toss a dolly or hand truck in the back.

Here it is with the other "uglies", I don't collect them but have picked up these onesover the last 20 years :lol_hitti

Again apologies for sideways picture

Thanks for the pic:rocker:!! That's a nice collection you have.

I fixed the pic for you.
Toomany, Somehow i'm not surprized! (Considering your avatar)
Well, Rob Zombie is currently directing a Philadelphia Flyers movie about the "Broad Street Bullies" so I thought it was appropriate. I'm also a huge Halloween fan as well as a Flyers fanatic.

that snap-on "booger picker" is worth the 10 bucks if you need it(if yer a car guy)
everything else is gravy

The Snap-on was the main reason I spent money. I figured $4 for that, $4 for the ratchet, and a dollar each for the sockets sounded about right.

But as quick as the counter guy said yes to my offer of $10, I wish I'd started with $5:eek:

The flex head is a F731A with a date code of '88. At first it was gummed up quite noticeably but after a tear down clean and relube it feels much better. It's not my first Snap On tool, but my first Snap On ratchet.

Went back to said estate sale on Sunday to see what was left over and grabbed a few things. Plvmb 3/8dr sliding t handle, craftsman tap holder, Greenfield 3/8 16 tap, craftsman tap handle, craftsman thread pitch gauge, tire tread gauge, and a stubby screwdriver. Thought it said Matco but it could say Malco? Can't find anything with a quick google search.

Here's a sale coming up in a couple of weeks. It's full of some cool old farm items including this harem of anvils:bowdown:.
