Anyone using the Tuxedo or Greg Smith Atlas Scissor lifts?

We use various inground and scissor lifts in our company where I work. For years I used twin post, inground, Rotary lifts. I did a lot of suspension work as well as electrical..( Under Dash ). I typically would raise a car 3 ft or so to work under the dash, and all the doors open.

Scissor lift appeals to me as there is no door interference problem. I see there are 2 post variations with more forward mounted posts as well.

I am looking to put a lift in a building I have at home..It will be hobby catagorey but used often by me, my sons, and friends.

Maybe full height scissor lift threads have not been beat into the ground too much...I would appreciate any info on"door clearing" lifts.

Thanks, Randy

I have one of the Greg Smith midrise lifts. I use it often, and can't imagine being without it. A search on these forums will ge you all kinds of info.

I'm not sure what "full lift" means. Mine goes about 50" high.

Looking into the atlas myself. I am a little nervous because Greg smiths dimensions on the lift are a little different than atlas'. I am pouring concrete on my build in a couple weeks.

I have a lot of reading to do.......

Whatever lift I may go with, I want a full rise, somewhere in the 70 - 73 inch lift so I can walk under the vehicle.

We live in rural.. gravel roads, mud, snow, ice, etc.... recessing into floor is not a good idea on my application as it would be a trap constantly full of c#ap.

Space is not a problem, I have 40 x 42 ft to work with.

Full rise and being able to have open car doors are my most important features.

Thanks for the links also...I will start reading tonight!

I've got the Atlas from Greg Smith, had it about 2 years, I love it. Mine's not recessed as my garage is on a floating slab without even a thickened edge. If you need dimensions I can help you with that. I will be moving eventually and the question of recessing vs not is a tough one, I haven't decided yet. Either way I will put the hoses in the slab.

I have also been looking at getting a full rise scissor lift for the same reasons. This is another one I found, does anyone know of more brand/capacity options besides the ones mentioned?
The Bendpak unit is a little cumbersome with the ramps.
Has anyone used this type of lift for transmission swaps? There is only 30" between the platforms which could be enough, probably better than laying on my back.

The link you supply is one I have looked at as well, and it appears to be the same lift as one of my links above..only the name is different as far as I can tell....... One is rated as 6600 and the other at 7000 I believe, makes me wonder if they make up some of this stuff. I will check with my techs on the trans swaps...are you talking FWD or rear wheel?

Why not a new rotary inground 2 post?

If I did that I would never sell this place or move....besides, I would be so tickled that I would pee down my leg, then the lift would rust.

A full lift ( 70 inch ) scissor would be easy to install, take with me if I move, or at least bear to leave behind to the next lucky guy.

A twin post inground rotary is the bomb..... As Garth would say,, I'm not worthy!

Why is the Bendpak cumbersome with the ramps? They come right off and are out of the way. I'm currently in the process of cutting the floor and countersinking mine.

We have two of those at school where I teach and I really like them, the ones we have (I think they're Rotary brand) there is nothing in the middle and they get the car high enough that I can easily walk underneath and not hit my head on anything. I think you could do pretty much anything repair wise on these....I'm a fan.

I have a midrise where the two sides are connected, but with the extra cross beams in the middle it's not so good for transmission work on a rear drive car or exhaust work.
