After "e-tek" pointed out my laziness about not posting pics of my small machine shop in the "Two Car Garage" thread, I'm compelled to start a new thread.

I'm not a machinist, so I don't have pro tools. But I do know enough to make/modify parts for my old cars and to make some tooling along the way.
It's nothing much; cheap HF mill/drill and a 3-in-1 lathe/mill/drill machine.
The bandsaws are set up for metal, as is the mitre saw (aluminum cutting)

I haven't been to a pro machine shop for anything but cylinder head decking in years. Everything else I've managed to do myself.

I'm sure there is plenty of interest in seeing other GJ members' machine shops as well.

However, we all know who's got the "best dang" machine shop around -- don't we? --- OCG


BTW -- I also restore my old Sun Testing equipment in there -- the current Sun 1160 machine is being rebuilt for a friend who returned from Iraq last September.

Here is the machines I have at home. I am eventually going to be moving them over to the shop to have everything together. I just kept the basics at home for now so I still have room to have space to work on my car at home.

Some of you have seen the pictures, may not have noticed the machine tools:

HF blast cabinet, Atlas 12x24 "wet noodle" lathe, Burke Millrite milling machine, Atlas drill press, Bike lift for the Harley. Also not in the pictures the obligatory HF 4x6 bandsaw, a couple sanders and grinders. Offshore 120V mig, and Miller 180SD TIG.
Primarily, most often useage is building racing go kart engines,

There are several of us machine tool dreamers on here as well. My shop isn't large enough and neither is my budget so I stick to body, paint, electrical , mobile entertainment, engine and light chassis work,

i hope to be picking up a b-port in the near future that will be the crown jewel of my meager collection of sears and H-F light duty machines. still looking for a lathe tho... suggestions?

You have a lot more CNC milling machines capacity than I do. I only own one Bridgeport EZ TRAK DX CNC milling machine. Though I do own a second standard Bridgeport mill and a Kearney & Trecker Rotary Head Mill. Much of what I make are one-offs and normally forgo the CNC route and use one of my manual milling machines. Even though I have Master Cam programing capabilities. I can usually crank it out by hand in less time than to program, download, then run it on my CNC mill. But then again I’m from the old school...

Very nice!!!! That is a class act, only second to OCG's setup.

BTW -- is all that equipment setup in your home garage, or a commercial building?

A Monarch 10EE and a BP put you in an enviable position -- definitley quality tools for any shop --

Autoist, the curtains are Goff Curtain Walls. These are the real deal, chemical resistant to paint, and work great for protecting the Machine Shop when I do welding and grinding.

You both have that paint booth curtain at I saw and a Autobody trade catalog.


You like it? Looks like it covers up to the ceiling great, how about down to the floor.

JC and anyone else?? If I was going to build my own ceiling / floor - - dust / fume collector, how do you decide exhaust tubing size and pump size and filter inlet sizes.

I would want one enough for fumes and paint spray. Would also think about tieing the same pump into a floor collector for dust and small particles.

I like that idea of the curtain for the the shop. I've got nothing like it, and I was looking at exhaust systems which are considerably expensive. And you get the government crawling up your *** to boot.
