I listed some tools yesterday on Craigslist and another local classified site yesterday and haven't receive any calls or emails. I priced them at what I though was reasonable but maybe I am asking the moon or would be better off on Ebay. I was trying to avoid the time consuming process of selling this stuff on Ebay. I don't the the pricing is that bad for what you have some things better, some things worse. but realize you are looking for a very specific audience out of the CL community. Your stuff really appeals to someone that is looking for new tools and possibly that specific item. Say I was going to buy those same items new tomorrow, then yea sure I could save a few bucks. Now on the other hand say I was just looking for a good working xxyy, new or used didn't matter, well in that case something cheaper can be had. Just my 2¢

I'd advise you to look at completed ebay listings and then factor in the shipping cost and what ever fees are associated and then possibly reevaluate your plan.

I have some family in the Jackson area, and it seems like a lot of people over there just aren't spending money. They've picked up stuff that was for sale for weeks, that would've been gone in less than a day around Nashville or maybe Memphis. I don't know why.

I think zkling has a good point as well, you're shooting for a specific audience. I'd bet you could sell them much quicker via eBay.

Yea not much is selling here I have bought some boxes of tools worth the money several times. I knew the drill bits would be a long shot and the rest of the stuff I guess is too. There is a limited group of people that know what tools like that are worth and have a need for them and an even more limited group that have the cash laying around to pay for them all at once. I just thought with it being around tax refund time someone might ****** them up if they were planning on buying some new tools anyway.

I was selling 2 50ft hoses still new in the wrapper for $40 a piece and I had people offering $40 for both. These hoses cost $70-$80 a piece at Lowes/homedepot.

Mac doesnt sell well on ebay, let alone craigslist. If you look at completed sale prices for your mac ratchets you will see they are selling quite a bit below your asking prices. And ebay is a USA wide (or worldwide if you so desire) audience. Just an example:

you are asking $95 for the VR17K ratchet. Last two sales on ebay are $62 and $67 before fees. Drop the price to $50 and you may get some action.

Don't give up yet. It can take a week or a few weeks before something sells on Craigslist. If it sells too fast, you may be pricing it too low.

It took me a week of advertising on Craigslist to sell some Carhartt items recently and I still have one item left.

Two things. First, unless you post a screaming deal on something, you shouldn't be waiting for your cellphone to ring ten minutes after you post the ad. Second, why do you put a price of $45 on your ratchet ad, when, not only are the ratchets not $45, but only the cheapest one is?

That always irritates me when someone posts an ad with a picture and price, I open it, and the price has nothing to do with what the seller is asking for everything in the pic. Usually I end up flagging those ads.

Remove the eBay "threat"...it benefits nobody. If you're really going to list it on eBay, then have at it. I would actually suggest this for the prices you're looking for. Much better audience for that type of thing.

Its craigslist. The audience is not looking for 10% off. They want at least 50% off even if it is brand new. You won't even get the prices you are asking on eBay or here. Sorry for the harsh reality. It kinda ***** when you can't get what you think something is worth, but any item is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

I agree 100%. Seems like bait and switch to me and I always flag those ads. You might do better listing them each individually. But I think as others have said the prices are going to scare away most people. The S&K prices seem really high just because they are such an old style. Make sure you check your spam folder. Most of the CL replies I get end up going to my spam for some reason. When I buy thing I often hear "I am glad I checked my spam folder. I wasn't getting any replies in my inbox".

Now seems to be a bad time to sell, just looked at a pawn shop near me. They have to top boxes full of tools for 30 each, both craftsman. Wait til after march, people getting taxes will spend then.

Whenever I see an ad with everything new and in the wrapper, especially the multiples (as in drill bits), It always sends up a flag in my mind. Why does this person have lots of tools etc still in the original box/ wrapper? Are they stolen? Did you get it for Xmas and you hate it?
I'm sure that isn't the case with you, but it just seems strange to me.

They look like decent tools. My only gripe is when you click on an ad that says for example

"wrench set $20"

you click on it, only to find out each wrench is $20. Oh you wanted the whole set? Thats $125.

Its very misleading and always makes me immediately think I'm getting something pulled over my eyes, even if it isn't the case.

Other than that, they look like every other tool ad on CL. If someone wants them, they will buy them

I already flagged the ad... Waste my time by posting a misleading price and I flag it every time.

Are you a CL Wishful thinker...Probably. But I say that will all due respect. When I post stuff on CL I am too, 9 times out of 10 I get what I want and more. Heck not too long ago I had put my 40" Craftsman Top & Bottom on CL, we were speaking about boxes here one day (imagine that) and it was said to me that I "wasn't really looking to sell my box at the price I had it for" which was very true. BUT in my defense, I got way more then I wanted for it. I can tell you I wouldn't have paid that for my box.


Another thing with CL...Lots/Groups work better on small items like you have listed. Especially here in Rural America....silly for me to drive 60 miles to grab a single ratchet for 20.00 less then MSRP. I bet I could get my MAC guy to match that pricing and he'll come see me. Same for the drill bits...pricing is reasonable no doubt, but at 4.00/gal gas, not worth my time to track you down/meet up after work, etc.. you can buy em right off Mactools.com for less when you figure everything in.

My rule of thumb is if its small & shippable, eBay or forum classifieds are the way to go. If its large and "unshippable"...CL it is.

I actually just bought the snap on 3/8's extension set from my SO guy last month for about the same price you are asking. Not sure about the other prices but that one needs to come down.

Sorry to post a "what he said", but I have to second the misleading pricing complaint. When I opened up the ratchet ad, I thought it was a very good deal - all those for $45. It wasn't until I read farther down the page that the true pricing was revealed.
I'm not saying you were deliberately deceptive, just saying it isn't the best way to go. If your ad heading had been "$45 UP", I'd have no complaint.

On the title price vs item price issue. I'm going to have to disagree on that one. Now had he put $1 or something like that which isn't representative of any item for sale, that would be a different story. What he did though is a common marketing strategy done by just about every large retail store's ad, especially around hot sale times like black friday. Heck even car companies list a low base price to gain interest. Which is correct you can actually purchase an item for the listed price but it isn't the top of the line or most decked out.

For all that flagged the ad for that reason do you also call up department stores and the like bitching about their ads when they do the same?

I don't even look at things on Craigslist that are priced more than 50% of list.
I generally don't buy for more than 30% of list.
