I keep running across these Plomb WF ratchets at the flea market that have no identification on them. Usually get them pretty cheap because no one knows what they are. I bought the 1/2" for $2.00 and the 1/4" for $5.00 with a set of mixed SK and Craftsman sockets. Don't even remember where the 3/8" came from. The only id on any of the ratchets is a U in the web of the handle on the 1/2" but it is not a circle U like on the Plomb ratchets they made for Craftsman. I saw another of these 1/4" plain ratchets on the board a while back that someone had bought with a Craftsman 1/4" drive set. Does anyone know what the history is on these unmarked ratchets?

No, I think that might require some in depth research from my Skunk works buried underground here in the flyover state of Kansas. Tell me again what the reimbursement costs for the set of three will be and I will shoot the funds right to you. :pimpflash

We request that you get them packaged and hot foot it over to your local post office so they can be wisked into our research department in record time.:3gears:

I can personally assure you that we will put our best team of research geeks on the project so as to get you the best and most accurate information these great minds are able arrive at after careful analysis, observation, and lab tests. :Homer:

I would like to commend you as a great American for furthering our research cause in the quest for information and answers. Now go and do! DISMISSED!

Since you are the only one that has shown any interest in these poor orphans,:wtf: I tihink maybe I should send them to you if you will promise to give them a good home. How much will you charge me to take them off of my hands? Do you have a perpetual care plan?:lol_hitti

This would likely get more action in general tool discussion...

Fwiw I have a 1/4" drive wf ratchet with no markings too. It came from my grandfather's house and was in a small box with craftsman sockets and accessories. Is it possible that these actually were part of craftsman sets?

I applaude your decision! As a matter of fact, assuming everything goes as planned I hope to have at least the next 70-75 years of care taken care of! I have my 6yr old boy in training in the appreciation of high quality older vintage tools! I am encouraged, the lad has displayed a keen interest in all of my tools, old and new alike. Assuming he continues on a good path and does not later turn into an idiot, I plan on schooling him in shop/cars/tools and the like heavily in the coming years.

As to costs, advise of a reasonable cost and I can assure a prime slot in our best research progrm!

ALL KIDDING ASIDE, THESE HAVE TO BE OLD PLOMB RATCHETS. I do have a fairly decent collection of old Plomb, but I have never found the old Plombs of this design in my travels, I would love to add these to my collection.

Remember when Plumb Tools had the "U" shaped like a "V". I have not seen any of your Plomb Tools.

I meant to post this in general tool discussion and now I don't know how to move it.
I was wondering if they weren't part of Craftsman sets also. Hoping someone could help clear this up.

It is an "O" shaped like a triangle not a "U" shaped like a "V". Plumb is an entirely different company. See: http://alloy-artifacts.com/plomb-gallery.html

As for the matter of you not seeing any of my Plomb tools. Did you not see the three Plomb ratchets in the first thread?:headscrat There are some more of mine as well as lots of others here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20864&highlight=plomb+pebble
