Re: Parker #2 Wrench insanity

Just when I thought I'd seen vise vice at it's utmost on this Thread, my eBay snipe of a Chas Parker #2 wrench under-bid miserably. Someone paid $46.51 for one of those simple wrenches... ok, so who here is going to fess up as the buyer!:willy_nil

WTF seriously... Several have sold lately for around $10-$20 if I recall correctly... what makes this one so much more? I was going to buy one to put on my union parker, but after thinking about it I realized it would just be more in the way as I rarely have to swivel.

Oh I don't know, I only know of one vise snatcher, and he's only interested in a particular 5198 don'tchaknow?

:p

I'm beginning to think that my "quest" is turning into my life's work...:dunno::dunno::dunno:

If that's the case, I probably should have started about twenty-five years ago...:evil::evil:

Damn thing's harder to find than an honest man in Washington, DC...;););)

Where are you located so we don't have to pay shipping on big vises?

Great idea. I've seen beaches with a similar design and looks like it works well with the big vises. Great way to show it in action with the big chainsaw in its jaws. Either you have a lot of snow to slide around on a brass tobaggon or you use that to call the kids?
Hey thanks drivesitfar,

The brass thing in the background is a door to an outdoor wood boiler. The chainsaw and the boiler have a special friendship. I totally agree that the door would make a great slide.

Nice stand sixkidsdad!

What is the chain all about?

Outlaw, you picked up on the chain. I kind of enjoyed reading some of the other answers. I'll show this to my wife unit and prove that I'm not the only one with a unique sense of humor...thanks:beer:

The chain is to help me move the vise up to the barn when I need it up there. I welded grab hooks on the bucket of my tractor and I hook to the vise chain and pick it up and move it. it's kind of eerie seeing all that steel floating around when I transport it, but the tractor hardly knows it's on there.

I thought Outlaw was talking about all the chain on VA's vises and I thought yours was just decoration. Your vise behind the tractor going to the barn probably looks like a mill going down the street hanging from a tow truck in Indiana that we saw on here last week.

By the way VA now that you own almost every 8 inch wide jaw vise made you might want to start searching for some bigger chain for the 9 inch ones. Pretty awesome yard art if you ask me.

Yeah, I am out after $20 on those when I see them selling on fleebay. $46 with time left is more than double on the last two I recently lost, but which finished in the low $20's.

A friend of my father gave me a vise he's had since he used to live with me, 20 years ago. He left it in our garage and I mentioned it the other day and he said that he's gotten a few more and that I'm free to keep it since it's been there since the day he moved out, about ten years ago.

I was just curious if anyone had any idea about it - it says Etau and Made in China. Seems pretty sturdy though and has the screw concealed by the bar. I think the jaws are 5"?

I'll try to post a picture tomorrow if I can figure it out

burgerkong: Pretty sure it's an English made Woden. Similar to a Record vice.

That's the thing, I couldn't really narrow it down, has a little of everything! Not fully Record/Paramo/RAE/Woden, but not fully Columbian etc. That anvil area is throwing me off, doesn't look like an import's anvil, and the 'No. 4' as well!

Carlos. I can just about tell you who's getting your wrench. Getridofone is getting it for that C.P. 976 he stole from me the other day. Can't blame him though, that was a real peach. Should have my but kicked for waiting on a secondary offer. But now he needs that wrench to make it complete.

Drivesitfar. I've had the chain waiting and getting rusty, and a bucket of locks, and a rack of keys. The problem is I fear, this here Garage Journal Vise Thread has single handedly dried up the monster market. People have been made aware. There is someone out there that's setting on my 209 who almost got rid of it because they thought it was a pile of junk and then along comes The Vises of Garage Journal, and now here I set on a pile of chain.

The brand name is not MODULAR.

It is NODULAR CAST IRON, also known as ductile iron. I doubt that it is a China made vise. Probably European and maybe an old Bison brand vise. For $20, you should have bought it without even asking.

It does not look at all like a Woden or a Record. Maybe only that they are blue in color...

The big green vise in Germany was posted here before by another GJ member some time ago, maybe a year or a year and a half if not more, so it has been for sale for a long time. Apparently no one wants to pay so much. And it was painted in the same wood base it stands on, with a brush, not even spray painted. Probably not taken apart and maybe painted over rust and dirt.

It was me that bid $45.50 and lost, but it was for a smaller Parker vise. The 975 and up use a #3 wrench which I also lost one about a month ago to someone ?? I have a couple of wrenchs that look just like the #2 Parkers and will work for now. My eyes won't stay open past about 9:30 on week days when I have to get up at 4:00 AM
Your being a sore loser on the 976 so I'll rub in in a little, I paid $300.00 and not the $375.00 buy it now. I lost the wrench but got a good deal on a pair of chain cutters. I am hiring B100 to locate your vise stash

$45.50 and you lost?!-----That must have been one of those Snap-on/Parker wrenches. Do you know what it finally went for?

^^^ WOW!!! Nice "rescue". They won't be able to easily replace those with something that is quite as good. I have Record Nos. 3 & 4 as well.

rescue doesnt mean free ... but significantly cheaper than ebay prices for the same vices. My buddy got some nice metal cabs for his garage from the same place - 2 full height hazchem cupboards and a half height.

There is a Snap-on vise with 5 inch jaws that looks a lot like a Wilton Bullet copy on my local CL for 250, is that a decent price or average? Looks to be really clean.

GETRIDOFONE It is "GETRIDAONE" I got it from my wife when she said "please just get rid of one" I had 15 Pontiacs at the time.

It's just a re-badged Wilton Tradesman, they are a little lighter than the machinist bullets.

$250 is not unheard of... Look on eBay... That's kind of the high-end of the price spectrum...

Snap on put their logo on Wilton tradesman vises. Pics would help, but if in great shape it's just an ok deal. I've seen these for as little as $50 and new I think they sold for $600. Condition is everything and just an FYI it was probably made in China. It's a good vise, but I'd spend that much money on a US made one.

Jason you are too quick. Right on

That's why I put "rescue" in quotes. :lol2: For reference, I paid about $75 for my Record No. 3 a couple of years ago. I bought my Record No. 4 new in the mid 70's and I'm pretty sure I didn't nearly that amount.

aye im sure i payed 45 GBP each for my records 3 and 4 - but given current RRP on irwin records is about 130 quid each i was happy enough - even if the fella was taking it for beer money - better than the scrappie would have given him, thats where it was heading till i spotted them.
