I just came super close to ordering a 14 piece metric set of black oxide wrenches for under $50 shipped.

Then I started to think about all the other metric wrenche sets I have
-Full set of KD metric wrenches, basically the same as Craftsman
-Full set of mixed brands in the trunk of my car
-Full set of Craftsman XL double box wrenches
-Full set of XL Toptul combo wrenches
-Full set of flex gearwrenches
-Full set of XL non-flex gearwrenches.

I think I may already have enough metric wrenches...

To many wrenches, a man can never have to many wrenches.......

Good thing I didn't read this when I decided to buy the rest of the set of black oxides up to 22.

No offence, but curious as to the appeal of the black oxide? Hides dirt and grease? Less likely to slip in hand? Please enlighten me.

Every Craftsman Industrial that I've seen has been made in USA (I'm pretty sure they are all). Also the black oxide pictures posted above has a USA stamp on the wrench.

:thumbup:Cool.
Was looking at the pics on my phone earlier and did not see any USA markings, however I just realized all of the pics were taken from the same side of the wrench, I'm guessing they are stamped USA on the other side then.

hides dirt, and it felt less slippery then the polished.

I also like them because they look spartan, no flash and nonsense. these are tools not jewelry. :p JK I like the polished too

Thanks, appears I guessed two out of three.

I have a full set of the regular raised panels that I've used since the late 80's, but have pretty much retired them since acquiring the full polished Industrials last year. I prefer their smooth feel and they're much more comfortable to me. I also like that they are long pattern. Easier to put a little more torque on stubborn fasteners. Also, when I'm done using my tools and wipe them down, I want to know they're clean before putting them back in the drawer. I don't want to grab it next time for some quick and minor repair, and end up with grease on my hand from a previous use. I don't want the grease to be hidden by the black finish.

It's just my opinion, but the black oxides just seem like the Rat Rod of the wrench world. I don't see the appeal for them, but to each his own.

Yup - Looks like Sears is clearing out the Industrial stock ????. I just wonder how many more they have in stock!! All are stamped made in USA, however some of the stampings look better (crisper) than normal. Humm......

So I was able to put together a complete black oxide metric set from 6mm - 22mm at a great price!

As for shipping...... All wrenches were thrown in a 1 Cu Ft box with no packing. The good news was someone double taped the box, so nothing was lost - LOL!!

A happy camper! - AL

Actually, they're the same price as the full polished. On this clearance deal anyway.

For me, it was availability and the desire to not mix and match for the set.

When I get them in I guess I'll decide then whether or not I want to keep them or wait for another deal to pop up.

I think the Black Oxide is more corrosion resistant for harsh environments, like chemicals or salt. The Chrome plated ones would rust and flake. You could drop Black Oxide wrenches in Evapo-Rust overnight, and they will come out looking new again, because the Evapo-Rust will convert the rust (iron oxide) back to Black Oxide. Black Oxide basically is a form of rust, but a controlled form of oxidation that acts as a protective layer from getting iron oxide (red) rust.

I don't think this is right -- Evapo-Rust will take off the black oxide finish, too.

This online deal let me add a few more of the full-polish, reversible ratcheting wrenches to my garage toolbox. Man, I like those -- for the kind of work I do they've become my go-to wrenches. The deal here is good (but not as good as the non-ratcheting).

Not really accurate. Evapo-rust removes black oxide finishes.

Ask me how I know...

And, it's spelled out clearly on the Evapo-Rust website:
http://www.evaporust.com/faq.html
What about bluing and other coatings?

EVAPO-RUST will remove sacrificial oxide coatings and is perfect for removing weapon finishes such as Bluing, Parkerizing, Zinc Phosphate, and Browning.

Anodizing, Cobalt Tungsten Carbide, Powder Coating, Chrome, Nickel, Paint, and most other coatings will not be removed as long as they do not contain oxides. EVAPO-RUST will not harm lead or solder points.

Well I got all my stuff ordered through the earlier link.. and jackpot! Whoever is doing the shipping/stock picking at the sears warehouse must not care - I ordered one 20mm full polish wrench and they sent me a sealed box of 5! I confirmed with my invoice, that they only charged me for one...

Needless to say, I've got atleast 4 extra 20mm full polish wrenches here, if anyone is interested and finds them sold out on the website, Id be willing to unload a few!

I usually don't and was totally expecting foreign slim ratchets. Putting together a first set for my son, and figured he could have the foreign stuff, I'd keep the US stuff...... Well we both have USA models now. And as I'm still piecing together my box set, I end up buying two of everything. Hopefully the tools last his lifetime....

It seems like it was last year around this time that they blew out a bunch of Industrial stuff. Maybe its a season thing to just blow-out/write-down extra inventory.

I picked up the cross force wrenches back then for a ridiculous price. They are beautiful wrenches.

Good to here. They aren't cheap enough for my yet, but I do want to add this to my box.

New to the fixing stuff around the house and such, what's the point of cross force wrenches?

I don't think I'll need it as a DIY type, just curious.

A tradition wrench is like a stick and in a tight place where you can't get a full or good grasp on the wrench will make you lose your ability to torque the fastener.

A cross force wrench twist 180 degrees and basically gives you a flat end of the wrench to pouch or pull on giving you more torque and less stress on your hand.

I too hope to add the USA Cross Force wrenches.

So is there anyone that has the "missing" sizes in stock?

Just got my 3/4 sockets and the long pattern industrials in, and I may be interested in completing the set.
