probably won't get much at an auction or Fleabay with that huge weld on it. you might get a few dollars by listing it in Garage Journal's classifieds and finding somebody that is local and needs some parts off of it.

by the way what area are you located because shipping costs might kill any deal and maybe a local guy here can hand you some cash for it?

or bolt it on your bench and use it until you find a better one.

Thanks for everything! I'm located in Los Angeles. I will definitely check out the classifieds here, as I certainly lucked out with the amount of tools I got from this. I'm cleaning a massive pile of rust and dirt and churning out some odd beauties. Weird stuff that I have no clue as to the identity of. If anyone is interested, shoot me a message. I have found that this fellow was a collector/packrat, so even the most trivial looking item could be something cool. As for vises: That Prentiss, another that the guy who helped me move the stuff took, a little Dunlap swivel with an anvil on the end and a Morgan that is just about the same size as the Prentiss. Good times.

Hello vise friends,
For your review, I have 3 low profile drill/mill vises. They have seen a few battles, but they work great after a little oiling. Please see pictures.

The first is an import from Taiwan. The second is a Columbian No. 152, and the third is an unbranded vise.

Concerning the third vise, I think it may be an American one because of the beefier frame and large feed screw. Does anyone know anything about it?

While I'm on the subject of low profile drill / mill vises, here's another one that I started on (pictured below). All that I know about it is that it's heavy, has the number 8 in the casting and has a paint color similar to Wilton. Anyone know what brand it is?

Here is the silver lining to my dark cloud of a day. Estate/garage sales were crappy but a friend met up with me and gave me this. Its my first Ridgid and its in great condition.

I think its just gonna stay like it is. The decal is too nice and i don't have a source to get another.

I got my very first Wilton today!

Here it is after stripping it down and degreasing and removing caked on grime.

Snagged it at a thrift shop along with an oxy acetylene cart, and a clymer manual for ironhead sportsters. $40 for the lot.

^^Nice score coma13!! Is that a #645 model? I just got one last weekend in a tool cart I bought. The guy didn't even know it was in there and told me to keep it. That's the good news.

Bad news is the lead screw has been hillbilly rigged with a 3/8" extension welded to the front of the lead screw in place of the handle. It's also missing the jaw inserts. The rest of the vise is decent.

Anyone have a lead screw for sale? I also put a post on the vise parts thread. I'm wondering if other vises lead screws would work?

The gears are a three speed transmission, with a detachable crank handle to operate a grinding wheel that attaches inside the vise.

Nice to see all of the great vises. I have a Palmgren pivoting vise that is missing one of the bolts. It's a "vintage" looking hex-head 3/8" bolt. Sorry I can't figure out how to attach a photo from the iPad. I tried looking on eBay, couldn't find anything of the sort, any idea where to get one, or what keywords to search for out on the web? New bolts just look out of place on it so I'd like to get a matching old bolt.

^ IMHO: Vintage, American vises are still under valued. If you wanted to buy one that's similar to your Parker, you would have to fork over >$1000.00. With that said, depending what part of of the country you live in, I would say $100.00 wholesale and $300.00 high retail. A bigger value is the condition, nothing is missing and most importantly... it's a Parker.

that Parker looks to be in awesome shape and also has the wrench that some guys were saying are very hard to find and are selling for $45 for just the wrench. Indiana is right on and i'm guessing $100 isn't the asking price because that would be a "no brainer".

maybe see if you can get the bench in a package deal or just pay up for that vise because other than a little dusting and maybe a little new grease for the screw it is ready to use tomorrow.

CT: very nice old Monarch vise and maybe some of the other members here will have some suggestions on how to mount that style vise so it will be solid on your bench and swivel if you need it to.

Jsharp, take a look around; I'll bet there is an old drill bit chuck on a shaft for that piece of awesomness! Those are commonly used as a horizontal drill press.

Mark: The base on his other vise is a suction cup for smooth surfaces (Think 50's-60's Formica kitchen tables) I had one as a kid, only I broke the back nut overloading it once. today I'd just make a new nut, back then I tried a variety of epoxies and glues but none held up in tension at all...

Handy little hobby vise with the rotating head the Asian have made infamous... Mine was mad in japan, back in the day with about the same level of quality...

All joking aside, that is a sweet looking vise... For a 6" in that condition, I would shell out $250-$300... but that's just me.

^ In the condition that it looks to be in, you would be getting it at a great price. 20 years ago before old vises were cool, I gladly paid $50.00 for my Parker 205.

We shall see. I just bought a nice milling machine and a sweet edlund drilling machine from him, so i might be able to work something out for the table and vise. The table top is around 400lbs of cast iron, according to him.. Not an easy thing to move around.

I have a couple of vise bases & hardware available for free (see picture). They are bases from small exposed screw Columbian and Dunlap vises that became a folk art projects.

If interested, PM me so I can give you an address to send a prepaid box and so you can give me the address to send them to, and I will be glad to pack & ship them.

All together they weigh 5 pounds. Please be sure to add a couple of pounds for packaging, etc.

I will hang on to them until the end of this month. After that I will have to toss them.

I don't know of a good steel table that is light so if you can use one that would be a nice one. I would remove the vise when moving it if you get it. if you don't have a trailer, but have a truck or a friend with one that has a hitch then rent a UHaul 5 x 9 trailer for $20 so you don't have to lift far from the ground. if you have already moved a mill i'm preaching to the choir because you already know how to move heavy things.
