Go to tooltopia or amazon and get the current street prices for new. A fair deal for good used would be approx. 40-50% of street price (not MSRP!!).

At <<50% you're approaching "you ****" territory.

I'm going to have to somewhat* disagree with Dave on that one. SK sells at a mere fraction of new cost, usually much lower than 50%. If that guy is asking $40 for a used 1/2" standard ratchet he is dreaming. Actually most of his prices are ~2x of what would be a used market fair price. Heck you can purchase that impact socket set cheaper NEW.

*somewhat meaning as Dave said, MSRP vs actual can get it for price is 2 different things, just like sears MSRP and the every other week it is on sale for 1/2 of that deal.

I called the guy, asked him how much for all 4 sets. " well 20 years ago i paid 400 for this set 350 for that set." " Im looking for 750."
I replied I found them new for 138.... I didnt even offer him a price. Unless im missing something and 20 year old SK wrenches are worth a ****ton of money. Or he just got ripped off when he bought them. .:wtf:

Compare it to similar ebay stuff that actually has people bidding...like mentioned before 30-40% off a normal purchase price (new) for used stuff. The ratchets won't be a lot, but the wrenches and sockets hold their value pretty well.

Since he clearly states he's moving offer $350-$400 for everything to start. Maybe $550 at the most. There's a lot there. You would make out better getting everything and selling what you don't want.

 Yea based on the prices listed I wouldn't have even bothered contacting the seller. Typical case of people thinking their stuff is worth so much more because it is theirs.

They are not worth what they are asking. When I look for hand tools, and if its in good condition then my limit is 1/3 of new and thats only if I want to keep them.

Typical cl ad. "Must sell" than they put insane prices. And have it listed 10 times and renew it every day

Even better when they say "Won't last, great deal" yet they keep listing and listing and listing.

set of superchrome long and short length wrench sets?
Flex head ratchet?

These should be 13pc sets;
$55 - $75 Super Krome Wrench Set 7-19mm 12 point Regular length
$75 - $95 Super Krome Wrench Set 7-18mm 12 point Long Set
$40 - $55 Super Krome Wrench Set SAE 1/4"-1" 12 point Regular Length
$50 - $70 Super Krome Wrench Set SAE 1/4"-1" 12point Long Length
$20 - $25 3/8" Flex head ratchet

If they have owner marks, scratched up or have rust pits take money off.
If they're really really nice don't be afraid to pay a little more.
Get the longs before getting the std length.
Make sure the flex head is firm.

If they are 20 yrs old they might be from the facom era. My dad has a set of metric longs and he said they havnt held up well and should have gotten SO.

The pic from craigs list kind of looked like they were the newer flat beam chromed style, not the older raised panel style.

Yep, about 1/2 street price is what you are looking for - depending on the tool and brand there are exceptions but this works as a general rule. FWIW just last weekend I picked up the same 1/2" ratchet marked as SK WAYNE that places it in late 50s-early 60's but it hardly looked used. I had been wanting a standard length SK 1/2" ratchet and stumbled upon this one for $10. I didn't even haggle I just snapped it up and paid the lady. I would have paid double for it, but getting much beyond that you get tempted to buy new.
