Anyone know any where in CT or Western Mass where they have any of the 72" boxes on display locally?

I'm considering the Homak H2Pro, but the new HF box also looks interesting - but I'd really prefer to see what I'm getting first. Sounds like HF aren't going to stock in store, and we don't have any Northern Tools even close.

Both of these are fairly shallow (front to back) boxes, and I have a spot at the side of the garage they'd fit perfectly. But I'm also considering a deeper box (say 30" x72") like the Extreme box (this would fit against the back wall of the garage). Again - anyone know anywhere in this area that has this (or similar) boxes on display for local sale?

Also - anyone got the 75" Craftsman Box ( http://www.sears.com/craftsman-75inch-15-drawers-roller-cabinet-blue/p-00902821000P ). There's one of these on CL locally, and I might consider that (though he's asking a nearly new price...)

Thanks in advance
Steve

Hi everybody,
I started this thread almost four and a half years ago (time flies). I'm glad (and surprised) to see this available again at Harbor Freight. I've had the box since I originally posted this thread and it has been a great box. I moved from Cleveland to Northern California a couple of years ago. When the moving company came to move all my stuff they said it was the largest and heaviest toolbox they had ever moved. I believe it weighs about 1300 pounds fully loaded. It does take two people to roll it around easily (on a flat floor) due to the weight but it can be done with one person with some effort. The wheels definitely made the move easier but it took 4 guys and a hand winch to get it up the ramp and into the moving truck. I'm still impressed (as are my neighbors) with the durability and quality of this toolbox. At almost 900 pounds empty, it will definitely last a long time under a lot of abuse. Mine still looks brand new after 4.5 years (although I am not a professional mechanic and don't use it all the time). I can post a video of it (if that's possible on this site??) with the drawers being pulled out to show how it works with the ball bearing slides. It appears that the only difference with the new box for sale on the HF website is that it has different wheels/castors on it (not a big deal). I had a Matco two bay toolbox that I replaced with this toolbox (see original post at beginning of this thread) because I had outgrown it and this toolbox is just as heavy and durable as the Matco line (in my opinion). I really believe it is a great buy for someone looking for a large heavy duty tool box (72" x 29" x 46") and almost 900 pounds empty weight.

we need that video!

Is the new 72" box not as deep front to back and not as tall?
Looks like it has two less drawers, due to couple of deeper drawers or shorter overall height?

Here a video that I just took of the 72" Harbor Freight toolbox. I had to post a link to it on YouTube since I can't upload a video on GJ here.

If you have any other questions just ask. This is a hell of a buy in my opinion, especially if you can get it for $999.00 as someone else stated above.

So does the new 72" HF box have craftsman style grip latch drawers? or the black sliding pieces like the 56" box does, it looks like it has the latter from the photos

Yes, it has the black sliding latches not the grip latch.

that *****, they would probably sell a lot more of them if it had a normal detent system or grip latch. Thats the only thing keeping me from buying one.

because you always have to open the drawer with 2 hands then, one on the latch & one on the handle, i find it annoying personally.

Humm...Never had that problem, slide the latch with you pinkie finger and grip the rest of the drawer handle with the rest of your hand and ****...it opens. Perhaps the wide drawer on the 72 and 56 would be a problem but I've had no issues with the drawers on my 41 cabinet or the red 6 drawer cart.

For the guys that have them, could you post some more pics? I wanna see if the drawers fully extend, or how far they extend. For that size toolbox, you really cant beat the price.

Going to need to take some measurements tomorrow, but for $1000 with coupon, this box definitely seems like a steal. I've been seriously considering the 56"er, but for $300 more, this one seems like a no-brainer. My biggest concerns are if and what they'd charge for a lift-gate (seriously doubt they'd show up with this thing in a truck without a lift-gate) and if it makes more sense to go with this box or a 56 with top case. Decisions, decisions.

Edit: On a side note, I noticed on their page, the speced weight of this box is only 528 lbs. this seems incredibly light for a toolbox of this size and it kinda worries me. I wonder if it's a mistake on the page or if there were some corners cut with this new release? Most 72" boxes seems to be around 750lbs-1050lbs.

For whatever it is worth, it appears that the original Harbor Freight 72 inch box is still being made by Torin China (http://torintools.en.alibaba.com/product/282026572-200681206/Industrial_Tool_Cabinet.html and http://torintools.en.alibaba.com/product/231034491-200681206/roller_cabinet.html). Although I have not set hands on the original box, I much prefer the configuration and depth of drawers (26.5 inches old vs. 19.5 inches new) than HF's new 72 inch box. If I could find the original box at the original price, I'd probably buy two or three and use them as wall cabinets (Steevo style). Anyone want to set up a group buy?? :lol_hitti

No, I didn't ask them for a price quote, but it seems easy enough to do. To that one will need to add shipping, import duties, etc.

Man, that bites that the drawer depth on this new has been cut by 7"! Really wish it was possible to still reasonably get one of those cabs. I noticed that the 72" Classic 96 cabinets from Snap-On are 555lbs and they're slightly deeper, so 528 lbs isn't as bad as I had originally thought.

Alberto,

I'm in the ocean freight business, I could get us a good rate from Shanghai to NY, forwarding included. Only thing would be getting the boxes to each person who ordered once they're here. I have a warehouse in NJ that everyone could arrange pickup from with an LTL carrier.

We would probably need to get 10-13 toolboxes for a 20ft container, they show 26 toolboxes for a 40ft high cube.. I dont think we would find 26 definite buyers on here

Ill send them an email & get some #'s

Hi Kevin,
Keep me posted on this. I'd definitely consider this option if the price is right. Maybe some top cases could count towards the needed quantity? I'd certainly be interested in one if they were reasonably priced. I guess the toughest part would be getting it home (I live in S. Florida; guess I could look into freight options). Thanks!

Alberto,
I'd also be interested but I'd be very curious to hear how we handle the logistics of ordering 16 boxes only to have 8 of them show up with damage from their journey across the globe. What would be the recourse?

Hi Wes

since they are selling FOB we the buyer(s) would need to insure the goods, I can get a quote on that too once the vendor gets back to me with some details. Filing a claim is a PIA though, I only do exports from the USA normally, when my customers have claims we usually just credit them if its a small amount. If it was caused by damage to the shipping container itself (being dropped from a crane, falling overboard etc) the shipping line gets involved and it takes a while to get reimbursed.

Start a new thread over in Hot Deals once you get pricing. I suspect we could probably scrounge up enough buyers for a 40 OT or 40 HQ sized container if the pricing is good enough.

Do you have access to LTL distribution already on your end?

Edit: I'd be interested in a few of these too if the pricing is right:

These as well:

I'm interested in one of the Torin 72" boxes- I almost bought one of the new ones until I saw the drawer size.

LTL distribution is not really my thing, we ship FCL loads only. I know a few LTL carriers though that I could recommend.
To be straight forward Id really just like to do this so I can get a big box for cheap & help a couple of guys do the same. Not looking to be responsible for a bunch of orders for 15-20 different people.

the links you sent for other boxes look like they ship from Guangzhou, China, which is 1000 miles from Shanghai, so that wouldn't work logistically.

Im just waiting for him to send some pricing on the tool chests

He said the drawers are rated at 50kg, which is 110 lbs. I just asked him if the larger drawers have double slides. I hope they do because 110 lbs is a bit weaker than I was hoping for, especially with a 30" deep box.

I figure we can get 6 of the bottom boxes, and they also sell a top box with drawers, a hutch & a full height side cabinet. We can fill the container with the those pieces.

he got back with pricing, but its too high..

for the bottom chest $1723, that's not including shipping, customs, warehousing, trucking .. it will definitely be over $2100 each when said and done.
I was hoping he was gonna say $800 FOB or something closer to that, then it would be worthwhile.

For that kind of money I'd rather get a montezuma or extreme from strictlytoolboxes and have zero risk.

sorry guys

Wow sounds like they've decided to get greedy! That's a load of nonsense and probably why Northern stopped carrying them and Harbor Freight went with a different manufacturer this time around. Oh well no biggie - woulda been a cool option if the cabinet was in the $800-$900 range. For what it's worth, I was turned off last night when you mentioned the drawers are rated for 110lbs - that's much less than the current generation 72" Harbor Freight (what's the point of deeper drawers if they cant hold as much?)

Yep this makes me sick. I think paid $100 less for my 56"...maybe $200 less at $799 or whatever it was. Dam you HF. Wish they didn't stop selling them. Hopefully everyone that needs a box jumps on these.
