Questions about insulating my ceiling

I've done some searching but could never find exactly what I was looking for.

I've got a townhouse that was built in 2006 so everything is modern construction. The walls of my garage are insulated so I'm planning to insulate my ceiling and garage door to keep it a little warmer during the winter.

Being a townhouse the garage is connected and the master bedroom and walk in closet are above the garage and it is insulated between the garage ceiling and bedroom floor but about half of the garage is an attic space that has no insulation. There is drywall screwed onto 2x4 roof trusses that make up the ceiling of the garage with an access hatch which makes it handy to get to. There are also soffit vents and roof vents up there so air movement should not be an issue.

Now for the questions

1. Would it be alright to simply roll insulation onto the the drywall from above?

2. If that is possible would I need to use insulation with vapor barrier?

3. Again if that is possible would it be ok to just roll the insulation out and not cover it on the top with plywood or OSB

4. And finally would it be alright if down the road I covered the insulation with plywood or OSB to make it into storage space?

You should place a vapor barrier over the drywall from above first. Maybe you can use some 6mil poly and drape it over the bottom cord of the truss and then roll out the insulation over the poly.

2. If that is possible would I need to use insulation with vapor barrier?

Water vapor wants to migrate to a cooler area and the water vapor will condense into a liquid when it reaches a place where the temperature is at or below the dew point - think what happens in an air conditioner.

3. Again if that is possible would it be ok to just roll the insulation out and not cover it on the top with plywood or OSB

You do not have to cover the top side of the insulation.

4. And finally would it be alright if down the road I covered the insulation with plywood or OSB to make it into storage space?

The trusses may not be designed to carry the extra weight of the storage.
