OOOOOH how do you like the light? My headlamp is pretty good but I don't like feeding it AA's all the time. I like the 18650's for the power and the recharge-ability. Where did you get it and how much?
time to light up my work:
My eyes are getting worse in my old age and, at work I am pretty much constantly using some small battery powered light. I've been going through headlights about 1 every 3 or 4 months using the average Lowes / Home Depot tool department offerings. I'm getting sick of having to keep 2 in my tool box 'casue I never know when one will break. I also hate the constant use of AA's / AAA/s. I hit on the rechargeable 18650's in a decent hand help flashlight a while back and went investigating how I might turn my whole set of small lights into a group all powered by those.
The HC50 kit is all in that pic with ac/dc charger, light, and one rechargeable 18650 was 80 bucks delivered on Amazon Prime. I tried it last night when I opened the box - I lit up the back yard and could see pretty well out a good 150 feet away. I turned it on in a dark room and was really impressed with the "spill" - it's not a spotlight - it lights up the whole area. In that room it was just about like you turned the ceiling lights on - better because it was brighter where you aimed it. I like the fact that it runs on one 18650 battery, not 2 and is less bulky than a lot of similar output lights I looked at - you can also use 2 CR123's stacked if you have / want them. The head strap seems to hold it in place better than the cheapo lights - we will see how good that is when I get all upside down working inside a machine at work.
I also think the low power settings would be great for outdoor / camping use.
I also got two extra Panasonic 18650's for $20 and the Ultrafire light kit with charger and more rechargeable 18650's was 17 bucks.
