I dont know if the Dual 80's are the best, but in 20yrs from now I should be able to get parts kits for them. I'm not convinced yet that I will be able to for the Armstrong ratchets. I might give one a shot after all of the positive reviews though.

What is the difference between "NEW GENERATION" and "MAXX" for the 1/2 locking flex rats?

The MAXX has part # AN12-944 $100
The NEW GENERATIONhas part # CT-12-994 $86

Can't find anything about the difference on Armstrong website or the web...

Where are you seeing that?

Armstrong doesn't use letters like that in the ratchet part numbers. The number for the 1/2" drive Maxx locking flex is just 12-994.

I would guess it's something added by the retailer you're referencing, unless Armstrong has made some change and not told anyone about it.

If you really want to know, contact the retailer and see what they say.

Has anyone used any of the other Armstrong Aerospace tools (sockets, wrenches, extensions)? I've been very pleased with the Aerospace ratchets and I'm curious if the rest of the tools are just as good.

HJE is out of stock of the Armstrong 88T Aerospace 3/8" drive ratchets. Jori tells me they had a run on them lately. (Must be GJ members. :D ) They are ordering more.

That's a good price on the 12-994 locking flex. At that price, I kind of wish that I'd of bought it vs the used SF80 I bought on evilbay...

Don't forget about advance auto parts if you're wanting the flex versions. They are cheaper than anywhere I could find if you use one of there coupon codes. Free shipping over $75 also. Use code TRT30 for 30% off of the 1/4" and 3/8" order together so you get free shipping. Use A124 for the 1/2" ratchet. Make sure you split the two order to maximize savings and still take advantage of the free shipping.

10-994 1/4" $44.79 after discount. That's $19.20 off.

11-994 3/8" $54.32 after discount. That's $23.27 off.

12-994 1/2" $78.89 after using A124 discount. That's $40 off.

That makes for a total of $178+ tax for all three, even with tax that's cheaper than I could find for new ones anywhere else.

I saw that as well, I ended up ordering the cheaper one. Let me know what you find out.

Andrew

Andrew, I ended up ordering from Advanced like OxJaw posted above. Thanks OxJaw

The prices are better than Toolfetch when you apply the discount Ox gave, but I may call ToolFetch on Monday just for shiggles and see what the diff PN is all about...let us know when you get yours..

After searching around for "new generation" ratchets, I'm finding the regular handle 1/4 and 3/8 listed as a 60 tooth. Maybe Armstrong is going to offer a 60 tooth "new generation" line and an 88 tooth MAXX line of ratchets?

I actually ended up ordering the regular version from ToolFetch for $60 shipped and the flex version from Advance Auto for $78 shipped, which completes the entire set. I now have 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 in the regular and flex versions!

Those have got to be the prettiest ratchets I have ever seen. The design of the handles and the general materials are just gorgeous. I really want a set but I'm worried that I would never use them; I'd be more tempted to frame them.

Someone asked about the 1/2" version 88t rebuild kit from Matco direct. I have a long hard handle flex head ratchet that is my favorite 1/2". ( and I have a lot of snappy rAtchets).

Matco would not sell direct. The local guys were JA. I order from Dave Blank when he was still a dealer. Think the 1/2" rebuild kit was 30 bucks maybe ?? Been a few years.

The Brown Santa just dropped my flex heads off. Damn, these things are nice!

And I wanted to say thanks to all of GJ. This is my first "$$$" ratchets that I've ever bough brand new. Yea, I've bought Husky and Cman for the work truck and beat them up. Since I've been on GJ I've got SO 80s and even a SHLF80, but those were bought used.

I'm happy and proud to have purchased these new. USA made, beautiful craftsmanship, and ones that will mean just a little bit more to me than the others..sentimentally ya know. Pass down to the rug munchers one day.

My 1/4" and 3/8" showed up today as well. I must say I am just as impressed with those as I was the 1/2".

I actually went and bought the three standard ones to go along with the flex versions, I was that impressed with the flex versions.

I bought them from Trident, 10% off and free shipping sealed the deal for me. Can't wait for them to get here. They had the best prices I could find.

Yeah, I was laughing when I read that!
I have a 1/4 armstrong, its been decent. It locks up and wont change direction without some fiddling once in awhile. Its seen some hard use though. I will get it rebuilt or exchanged someday. It has done more than a 1/4 ratchet should be asked to do.

I just ordered the flex head ratchets from advance auto that OxJaw posted about. The discounts are still working...

I have a new set of Craftsman 84t ratchets that look similarly well made and will replace my older old school Craftsman ratchet set. Man you guys are making me spend a lot.

Thanks OxJaw!
