Garage makeover after 20 years

Our home is approximately 20 years old. The garage was the neglected space in the house and like many 20 year old garages was cluttered and messy.

1. Cleaned everything out of the garage. In 20 years you collect a lot.
2. Plugged all of those holes that at sometime in the past held something.
3. Painted the garage a light gray.
4. Put in a Racor ladder hanger to get it off of the floor.
5. Put in a Racedeck Freeflow floor
6. Put in Gladiator cabinets to store the things we are keeping
7. Put in gladiator track to hold recycling bin and newspapers
8. Finally added two (2) 55W LED lights to help old eyes see to detail the cars.

Thanks. No I don't have any before pics. The big change is getting everything off of the floor. We had wire shelves that held gardening products, car detailing products, car chemicals, etc. It was difficult to clean and even when it was put in place looked messy.

Those are the welded Gladiator cabinets and I really like them a lot. I got them in steps as Sears had sales on them. They were for the most part at about 50% of the Gladiator website price on sale.

Great space and SL. Since you are a fellow Texan, you might want to insulate the door with one of those foam panel kits--they make a huge difference come summer and if the ceiling needs some insulation you might consider that as well. Gets hot in these parts!

I am an amateur detailer. I maintain our two (2) daily drivers which are currently my 2013 SL550 and my wife's 2013 Murano SL. Both cars are polished with a GG 6" and her car has Pinnacle Black Label coating on the paint, wheels, and glass and Carpro DLux on all of the plastic and tires. My MB has PBL coating on the glass and wheels, but Collinite 845 on the body at present. I am about to go through a complete correction on the MB this week or next and I am planning to go to PBL on the paint. I wash both vehicles every week and the reason for the Racedeck Freeflow is that I use Optimum No Rinse Wash and Wax in the garage when I can't do a full two (2) bucket wash.

Thanks. I've been in Texas a long time. No matter how much insulation the garage is going to be hot part of the year. The house is well insulated with 20" of blown in insulation, but the garage is decked above it and would require removing the deck or foam injection to insulate it. I try to work very early in the morning in the garage if I need to be in it. I also have a larger garage at my business that I use for mechanical work where I have a couple of port-a-cools to work in the summer. It is 60' x 25' and has a higher ceiling.

Thanks. The wife never wanted me to take a picture of the before I'll look and see If I have one somewhere I may have one with one of my cars.

Here is a picture to give some idea of the wire shelf mess. I'll look to see if I have a better one.

Thanks. I have enjoyed looking at the garage ideas that a lot of guys have posted. We are on a city lot and therefore land locked with our little 2 car garage. I like driving into it and knowing everything has a place.

Since the home is a non working garage, it is nice. I do wonder why people who have manicured lawns. Up to date interiors and on front of the house, you see a double wide door wide open and unpainted sheetrock and all their storage open for all to see.

Not ashamed of the before, just wasn't something I wanted to take a picture of. Yes I kept up the same pegboard and just painted it. I am thinking about getting some plastic pegboard to replace it. I know that some folks hate pegboard, but I find it handy for those items that you just need to grab to do a little fix something. I have mechanics sets in the garage and in my mechanical garage.

We had painted sheetrock, but we were probably one of those houses otherwise. Fortunately the double door is hidden from the street as in our neighborhood they can't face the street.

I love it on the wife's car. I put it on at Thanksgiving and it shines and beads like it was put on last week.

My garage is 21' 10" wide x 20'8" long. I put left a gap of 2" on each side by putting in 21 tiles plus a 3" border on each side and I put the length right up to the back wall with a 2" gap at the door with 20 tiles plus a 3" border on front and back. I didn't have to cut any tiles, but I did notch the borders at the door for the door rails. The border all the way around gives it a nice finished look imo.
