I don't know if Easco is still in business. Are they owned by Dahaner?

If the name isn't still being used, do you know if I can send in a broken breaker bar and get an equivalent replacement?

They were assimilated by the Dahaner Borg. Davestlouis had a thread on here about warranty stuff on an ratchet. I think one of the Dahaner guys posted in it with a contact.

I actually come across NOS Easco at Napa stores sometimes. Last week I saw some wrenches or something with the characteristic name plate on them hanging on the rack behind the counter. They are good tools.

Easco also made True Value's Master Mechanic line for a spell back in the 80's to!

I had an Easco round head ratchet that had a broken pawl. I called Danaher and they said the rebuild kits were discontinued and sent me a new KD teardrop ratchet. The teardrop ratchet has pretty sloppy ratcheting action. Since then I have seen some people say they got rebuild kits for theirs however. I would expect them to send you a new KD breaker bar

NAPA sells the kits for about $14. I also took the guts out of an Easco, walked into a Sears Hardware store with the loose guts and they handed me a free replacement gut kit.

Thanks Dave, I think I'll give that a try! Maybe my local Sears will swap me a kit.

That style Easco was and is sold under different names. There is a thread from a few month ago about how to get a free rebuild kit from Danaher.

I got one by pretending I had a KD.

If you go to Sears apparently they do not just hand out kits like in the old days. But if your local Sears does, then please get me one.

Thanks Tool Pants- I'll give Danaher a call on Monday. Probably better odds of getting it from them. Did you have to send in your old guts or did they just take your word for it?

Thanks MAD! I just spent damn near an hour reading all the posts in that thread! Good info! Between you and Tool Pants, I should be well enough informed to deal with Danaher...

I take it they told you to send it in? Did they say they would honor the warantee on Easco products?

No -- after my third e-mail, I finally got a reply. They suggested I contact an authorized dealer for a a replacement. Instead, I just sent it in. We'll see what happens.

Just a little update on this. I sent an e-mail to Danaher and told them I needed a kit. It took them a couple days to reply, but they are sending a repair kit to me as we speak. I just told them I need a KD 1/4" quick release, fine tooth kit.

Update: The kit came last nite, free of charge. The ratchet is back up and running.

KD send me a new breaker bar. To roughly what at a glance appear to be the same dimensions as the Easco breaker bar. Took a little less than 4 weeks for replacement.

Paladin, can you post the part # info; that way someone else might be able to request that particular kit! How did the rebuild go? Are the parts exactly the same?

Billy- The KD equivalent ratchet is tool# 71-1106. There is a "Cat No." on the instruction slip of paper that came in the kit. It says CAT NO. 10908. I just sent an e-mail and asked for a renewal kit for a KD 71-1106. It took a few days to get a reply. The kit is the exact same as the Easco guts. I assembled it last nite and the Easco is good-to-go! Here's a link to the KD ratchet I asked for parts to.

Yeah, mine is a 1/4" drive. It does say 10908 on the slip of paper in the kit. I think KD just changed the model or tool number for the 1/4" to 71-1106. They are interchangeable is what I'm getting at.

I seem to think that the tools themselves start with 71- for 1/4 drive, 72- for 3/8 and 73- for 1/2 drive. This all gets confusing since you have to know the KD or Allen part # in order for Danaher to send you the part, if you have the Easco part # they'll tell you it's discontinued, from what I've heard.

I'd be interested in getting rebuild kits for my two EASCO "paintbrush handle" rats.

So, I have to be the "tool snob" that asks this - what is the COO of the K-D replacement tools? I don't much care about the rebuild kits - I think - but the breaker bars, ratchets, etc...? I only ask b/c most of the K-D branded stuff I've seen lately has been Asian - mostly China - and hasn't seemed to be "decent" Asian, either...
