Was reviewing this month's ad (varies by zip/store), and think these items might be good after Ace Rewards instant rebate.

I went to Ace for the 20% off bag sale last Saturday. Just checked my receipt because I bought that Vise Grip...and they didn't give me 20% off, I'm guessing because I didn't use their silly brown paper bag.

Seriously...Ace is only a step or two behind Sears in the next hardware chain to fall...and their cashiers are trying to scam me for a few dollars. Enjoy these returns......

All the coupons and bags I've seen mention that the discounts are valid only on regular-priced items. Anyone have a Ace store nice enough to ignore that fine print?

They weren't on sale last month though (at least I didn't notice it being on sale). This was bought in conjunction with a few drill bits too, which also looked like regular price.

Two drill bits and vice grips clearly fit in the bag, I don't know why they didn't just extend me the same discount that they were giving to everyone else?

Is it that too much to ask? Or is cutting coupons and jumping through hoops so ingrained in culture nowadays that being courteous is out of the question anymore?

I'll ask for my discount refunded, or return them either way. I wouldn't have purchased them if are full price, I can get better stuff from HD or Amazon for about the same price.

Let's get back to the basics. This sale (like any other sale) is meant to drive foot traffic to the store. It's meant to establish a relationship with the consumer, maybe get you to notice some item in the store that is not on sale but you do need and will buy at full price, and it's also meant to create brand awareness to perhaps drive future purchases.

The bag, is meant to limit which items go on sale. So no tractors, no bags of concrete, etc. Fine.

The fact that this cashier decided not to tell me "hey, my manager won't let me give you 20% off but if you trot over and pickup that bag and get back in line you will", but instead charge me full price and not mention anything, they've done themselves a disservice and have inconvenienced not only me, but them as well for having to process returned items. Thi wasn't an exclusive or "secret sale", no secret handshakes were made, no coupons were required. Common courtesies are just nonexistent nowadays.

So who's the winner here? Nobody. Thanks for wasting my time, I will waste theirs, and I will use Home Depot for my future impulse buys. The end.

As someone he is in retail management, let me clear a few things up for you. The cashier he served you was to assume you were their for the 20% off? By directing you to a bag after you got in her line? Which you could of just as easily grabbed on your way in?

Now granted its great when any cashier tell me, "hey that's on sale with a coupon", but on the reverse I would not go online and say "that cashier scammed me because she didn't give me the coupon price even though I did not have the coupon" because I hate to break it to you but those brown bags are fundamentally coupons.

It states on the coupon, 20% off whatever can fit in the brown bag. Why would they give you the discount if it wasn't in the brown bag? You are to blame not the cashier.

Beware the rebates, whatever company that handles them definitely screwed me. I'm not participating in Ace rebates any longer.

I also posted a negative review of one of their products a couple months ago that never made it up. The review was civil and well-worded. Thus I'm convinced they censor their website reviews, even if the content is constructive.

I don't know why people still bother with the rebate form.

I just hand them my Ace Rewards card (free membership) at the register, and the rebate amount is instantly deducted like a coupon.

Also, the push broom has some negative reviews.

Dude...you couldn't tell when you gave them money? I mean it'd be something like 4 bucks off pretty easy to tell.

I don't shop at ace because it ain't close though. But when there's a discount I calculate the discount in my head before I get to the register.

The Ace circular ad has the Irwin tools like so:

As far as I know, they started it about a year ago. They kept the old rebate forms, and I guess it's because some people refuse to become an Ace Rewards members.

Ace has some great specials now and again but otherwise their prices are absurd, at least at the franchise I frequent. Case in point, yesterday I noticed they had a 'sale' on Scott Shop Towels In A Box for $14.99. Menards has the exact same box right now for $5.99. Last summer I needed a GFCI outlet for a project. Ace wanted $12.99; I got the same item at Menards for $3.99. I'll continue to go to Ace and pick up their hot deals but I don't even bother to look at anything else.

Edit: Oh, and be careful with the Ace rebates, I'm still waiting for the one I sent them last spring.

Man, a person can't win for loosing. If you asked to sign up for the free rewards card, you turn them down, "I don't you keeping track what I buy", Then when you don't get the membership rewards you cry again. Pull up your big girl ******* and go home....****

There are two Aces somewhat-not-inconvenient to me. I never minded going in the store, though they are crowded and messy (plumbing section seems to engulf the whole store some days) with stuff but almost empty of shoppers. Back in the Ace/Truevalue days the one was a really amazing store, but now it's an Ace with a Family Dollar inside it and... yeah.

The other is a great place to get NOS USA tools, especially consumables. I don't get to that end of town often but when I do I try to stop and take a look. Problem with them is they're close to 9-5 hrs so I miss them often. They are nice guys, but there's a lot more 'don't' and 'can't' there than at other stores.
