Question on WirePro Brand

I've run across some Wire Pro brand linesmans and diagonal cutters and strippers. These I understand were briefly made a few years by the Wire Pro company, which then was a division of Klein. Has anyone used these? How good are they relative to newer or older Klein? How have they held up over time? I have some old Klein cutters and linesmans that are pretty awesome still, but wondering about this brand and how much Klein goodness might have been instilled into them or not. thx - Paul

I'd be willing to bet, they'd serve the average Joe just fine. With that being said, they are probably of the same quality as any other $9 line mans pliers. I personally wouldn't waste my money on them. I would consider the $20 pair of Channellock brand though.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Channellock too. But I've never used their cutters or linesmans. My old Klein linesman and little diagonal cutters *still* cut pretty good after about 30 + years of age (I got them used some years back before I knew what Kleins even were and didn't know what I had till I used them and was very pleasantly suprised at the quality). They are very good, but wondering what I might be missing with a newer pair. New Kleins are unfortunately pretty pricey, but even Channellocks are not cheap by any means and let's not even talk about Knipex. Those are the brands I hear about the most on GJ. But if that is what does it best, may have to just spend the money to get those. Still, not much lost if these don't pan out and worth a try I think as US made under Klein's watch. I think they only used this brand a couple years at most in the early 2000s and killed it. I'm not any kind of pro user, just a DIY homeowner now getting into some electrical, but still like to have nice tools to use like most would. - Paul

I used to use Channellock linemans exclusively, had too many issues with them so went to Klein & never looked back. The Wirepro pliers look like the ChiCom Southwire tools at Lowes.

Ok, so bought one of each Wirepro brand from Cripes off ebay. Here is my review!

The made in USA by division of Klein Wirepro brand is VERY GOOD! The diagonal cutters cut efficiently 12-2 NM or some pretty thick plastic sheet I had handy. For comparison, I also bought a set of Crescent Taiwan COO brand new diagonals and a 9" linesman I wanted to try with their leverage technology also off Cripes. The Crescent would not cut the NM in less than 3 tries and only dented the plastic. The Wirepro sliced them like butter. My old Klein small 6" diagonals also cut these things with their classic SNAP sound but took more effort than the brand new Wirepro (which is a much larger size tool). Note I don't have a modern Klein for comparison, but I want to say these would be very similar. Wirepro is very good.

Linesmans are similar. The Wirepros are sharp and easily slice through the 12-2 NM all at once like the diagonals. 1 Second to slice through. I can recommend these to the forum now. Go get a set while you can if you want any similar but cheaper than new Kleins. Best I've used to date. (Not ever used Channellock linesmans or cutters or Knipex or modern Kleins). Way better than a brand new Crescent Taiwan COO tool. Note these Wirepros have a "looser" fit than the old Kleins, which are still so tight after 30 years than they are hard to open and close. The Wirepros are not tight like that but work very well.

Note, test of time not done here. These are brand new old stock evaluations, but look real good for the long term too. High quality US made under Klein's watch. Would be good for anyone to compare to Knipex and Channellocks and modern Kleins if you get any and have some of those for comparison. Pro electrician evaluation would be nice. - Paul, your DIY homeowner who respects electricity and those in the trades
