While doing a little bit of planning for my next tool purchase, I googled an armstrong number, and got a hit at STAPLES. Just thought that was odd. I did a search at staples for "armstrong" and came up with 2 pages of items (none of them the one I was looking for.

I don't really have a point. I was just scratching my head at the oddity of it all.

Marketplace sellers not staples

Well, that explains it at least.

Sears has been doing that kind of thing for a long time, but at least they have a tab you can click to narrow the selection down to sears only. It's kind of annoying when they do that, if I wanted to buy from the internet in general, that's where I'd be looking in the first place.

Staples is going to try to be Amazon and use the brick & mortar stores less and less.

Some companies only allow purchases to specific stores/retailers. Ie, some places will ONLY purchase through Grainger unless there are extenuating circumstances and then it is a pain in the *** to get a PO approved and submitted.

And some places have very low limits on the corporate cards that are provided to management. One place I worked the three managers had cards linked to the same account with a monthly limit of $750 across all of the cards. Thats basically nothing.

The Ol' Lady works at a place where Staples and Sam's Club are the only places you can purchase from without corporate approval which takes 3-5 days to get approval.

These retailers know this and therefore are trying to expand their inventory to cater to everything any business could possibly ever need.

I can see why a corporation would do this.

Makes auditing and probably billing easier w/ less chance of internal fraud.

Inside embezzlement often entails payments to ficticous businesses. Makes it harder if the approved vender list is more tightly controlled

Sears does the same thing. Staples has been doing this for a long time, they do not have competitive pricing and you can't use any staples coupons or promos on the purchases. It may be a way to make money off Government entities.

I think staples also does net90 if your company is big enough. That's a big reason is why so many businesses will set up pcards to buy from them.
