I gotta back up Brownsfan on the Klein demo drivers. I was thinking about getting one and he pushed me over the edge. I liked it so much I got the bigger one and another regular one for a buddy on his birthday who also liked it enough to clear a main spot in his tool belt for it.

The Klein numbers are: 602-4DD and 602-7DD

Mayhew striking screwdriver, straight blade.

I have these; great tools....

Great, but unfortunately even the little 7S is one hell of a "screwdriver". I've got a little Matco prybar that's like 7" overall, I wish they had the same in a straight blade. It's like a large 3/8" screwdriver (albeit with a bent tip) rather than a smallish prybar.

DeWalt...I got those for like 9 bux at HD...I frikin love them. They are my beat up drivers vs my Instincts....That's what I've narrowed it down to. Threw all the other screwdrivers in the "Salvage Box".

I've been using an old no name green handled flathead screwdriver with a striking cap on the end. I use it to knock stubborn dust/grease caps off the hubs. I will most likely go with the Mayhew set. I've got Mayhew pry bars that I like so I feel confident these will be great too. Also the longer size Mayhew bars will be useful for me since sometimes I need a longer shank screwdriver to clear coulter blades to knock off the dust caps.

I love this... I was discussing these screwdrivers with a couple of co-workers today. Classic example of the wrong tool for the rite job. Only to be made the right tool for the job.

So, I went to the Garret Wade site to look at the striking screwdrivers. Judging by the prices, they are extremely proud of them. A two piece set non specific sizes, stock number 05R01.30 is $59.40. The special treat, the're imported. Go for the Mayhew or any other name brand. Ken.

I have a couple of the Mayhew striking screwdrivers. They used to be green/orange for PH./Flat and sold as "Cats Paw", although the last one I got showed up red/black and labelled "Mayhew Select". I really like them, and don't feel bad using them as a prybar/chisel/punch Snap-on HH I am looking directly at you.

I think that some of the other Mayhew products linked earlier in the thread were the straight tip Dominator pry bars. The Mayhew screwdrivers are surely much smaller and handier than those.

When I saw this tread the 1st thing that came to mind was impact driver too but then if you need a long shank you're hooped. You can never have too many tools.

I was going to suggest PB Swiss, but changed my mind. The Cat's Paw seem kind of expensive for Chinesium (which I believe they are). I suppose you could just buy a Wera Chiseldriver set on Amazon for 40 bucks, but that seems kind of expensive for something that'll get torn up.

You can buy individual 900 series Weras on Amazon for what it's worth.

I've had good luck with the Mayhew ones. As I recall, the Cat's Paw/Mayhew Select are from Taiwan. You can get singles from Tooltopia and MSC I think.

Yeah, I'm the one who posted the link, but I know exactly what you mean.

Truth be told, while I have a bunch of these type prybars, and like them a lot, most of mine were US made and are really old. The imported ones don't nearly have the quality handle fit of the oldies.
This is the sort of thing I GRAB at flea markets, and they generally sell cheap. The current production ones are way overpriced, and just don't have the same quality. Ahh, nostalgia, it just isn't what it was anymore.

If I were buying today, Mayhew, in a heartbeat. I've got the Craftsman Pro prybar set (basically the bent version of the same thing), and they're fantastic.

Oh, and somebody mentioned the green handled no-name ones.
I have a set from HF that matches that description. I don't use them as designed, but keep them in the drawer for those times when it's faster for me to
