Any tips for saving on a big purchase at sears?

Does anyone have any good tips for saving some cash at sears? I have shop your way rewards and tool of the month club but i'm looking to make a $1000+ purchase on a 52" bottom chest. I thought about buying some used gift cards but all the one's I've found online are only saving you 7-9% off (and I already get 5% off if I use my sears card, making that only a 2-4% savings), so although it's a saving it would only add up to $20-40.

Any input/tips would be appreciated. I highly doubt it'll be on sale come craftsman club saver days the end of this month but i'll wait to see anyways before I go buy it.

I'm thinking wait until a 52" goes on sale for half off or so, if you can wait. Eventually, everything at Sears goes half price, including tool chests.

We have giant eagle food stores here. They sell gift cards and often times double the rewards. (Usually 10c a gallon) 20c off per gallon every 50$ spent. Have a huge selection of gift cards.
I did this when we bought our home and completely remodeled it, I also used my credit card to pay for the gift cards and I got 5% cash back as well. didn't pay for gas for a few months

Yeah, having the Sears card(5%) and trying to use a gift card site is tricky. I have a Subaru rewards that gives me back 3%. If it were me, I would use the Subaru card to buy a $1000 worth of cards at Cardpool($30 rewards). I would then login to my fatwallet account and buy $1000 of stuff thru sears. They usually give around 3% thru fatwallet. Thats another $30. Then that 7% off at cardpool mean you saved $70 already on the card. $30 + $30 +$70 = $130 savings which is 13% off that $1000. Thats my way of doing things. Different reward cards and gift card site will give different results.

I think they inflate their tool box prices, and then choose a few each week to put on sale for 50% off.

Personally, I like to strike when I see the following combo:

• 50% off sale
• No 'Hot Buy' or other annoying tag on the product to block online coupons
• Large Surprise Point offer (e.g. Sears $25 in points to use on $150 or more purchase, or something similar)
• ShopDiscover cashback bonus raised temporarily to 10%

The saver days do ****, especially compared to just a few years ago. But I'm pretty sure the Craftsman Club is only still around to appease longtime customers. It's pretty much been eliminated by Shop Your Way.

As all have mentioned, the cash back savings, sears card, sears online coupons (x amount off x spent, and bonus points for spending x amount), rewards points from buying gift cards that you can use for 10 cents off gas, etc. All the savings will require some work by you to determine what the best deals are. Also keep an eye out on the sales through them too. I would also look online at Searsoutlet.com. Sometimes you can find the same box as the Sears store for hundreds less. You may have to travel some, but depending on the savings it will be worth it.

For something like that, you should consider shopping Sears Outlet to see if something pops local that fits your needs. For something like that chest, even if you had to drive 100 or so miles, it might still be worth it depending on the discount. There are alot of posting that are brand new and not reconditioned.

Yes, it's a workstation, but there's nothing preventing you from adding a 52" top cabinet to it if you wanted. And at $505.88 shipped, that's well within the expected discount you're looking for. It is technically just a bottom chest with a hard top, but has 30lb per drawer rating.

Might want to check out the Montezuma or the Extreme brand of toolboxes for the $1000-1400 price range. I have the 72" Extreme one with stainless steel top and am very pleased with it. High quality and it was shipped quickly. You also get to save on taxes.

thanks guys for all the info. The reason I want a 52" bottom is because I went in to buy a 42" chest last week as I've overgrown my current one. The guy told me they had a new 52" top in the back for only $280, so I picked that up and am now looking for a bottom to match it

Definitely wait for it to go on sale, that should save you between 25% - 50%. Try to get ahold of a 15% in rewards points coupon and will get a good deal on your tool chest and some money for a few new tools.

Seriously, you get a discount at a bunch of places. A neighbor did it when they remodeled their house. They saved several hundred on appliances alone just at Sears.

I got a great deal on a big Sears Craftsman top chest on closeout. Since I couldn't get the matching bottom at a comparable great deal, I just threw it on top of a workbench.

How about getting a Craftsman or Gladiator workbench on sale, and throw the 52" on top of the workbench? You could then also roll any roller cabinets under the bench for additional bottom storage.
