I saw an otherwise gorgeous older, sleeker Super Sawzall at a pawn shop today that had one odd detail, and I could not figure out if the reason for the "reamed out" appeanance of the foot was perhaps something gone awry with the reciprocating action, or an owner made modification of unknown reason.

It is caused by a bent blade or pushing it and having the blade rub it.It is a common thing with carpenters that due a lot of demo work . Getting in to tight places with a long blade .It is a sign that the saw was abused.Hav had it hapen to 2 dewalts so i would pass.Just my oppion.

Depending on the price, it could still be a good saw. Look at the cord, the switches and the vent louvers. If you see any signs of damage or that it has had alot of drywall and soot dust in the motor, PASS. If it looks to be in good condition apart from the shoe, BUY IT.

That damage is from turning too fast or tight when cutting a round hole. That particular shoe is prone to that if the blade is reversed (the older saws and other OEM's have more clearance) I have seen a shoe like that after the first day of use on a demo job. The shoe is only $20, so go buy one.

When I asked the pawn shop guy whether I could plug it in, he said yes, but then took that honor upon himself, seemingly giving himself an education in the insertion of the Quik-Lok cord in the process.

Upon pulling the trigger it sounded initially sounded like it was seized, whereupon the pawn shop guy might have momentarily looked a bit spooked, but then cool was restored when he rotated the variable speed control away from its lowest setting, and then on up to max.

That baby hummed like a sewing machine!

I have since cleaned it up and used it once here at work when I spied our Romanian electro-mechanical engineer cutting on a 2" aluminum pipe with a hack saw, ha.

Thank you all for your replies: nothing beats some seasoned advice when one is a bit green on a given subject.
