Form Fit Tool Trays

Wondering if any company makes generic sized tool trays that are more form fit for things like sockets, wrenches, etc...? I just noticed Craftsman has these "build-a-set" systems but I don't see they sell the trays separate. I already have most the same tools as the socket set and as for the wrench set, I already have them too. Kind of cool they have these sets now though.

Anyway, any company making formed fit trays like these that are generic enough so we can plop our own tools in them.

I found this incredible little product a couple of weeks ago, have not heard any talk about it on this board. I asked my Matco driver to find me one, and he had it for me the next week. After I showed just a few guys at the shop, nearly every one was calling the driver asking for him to order them one. Coolest thing I've ever found.

I actually prefer the laid down seeing the whole tool look of modules or trays. Would be cool to have trays that somewhat form fit all the normal size sockets and room for basic extensions and a ratchet or two. tj

I am sure Sears is licking it's chops waiting for all the folks to drink the kool-aid and buy those tidy little spiffy trays. Very orderly too. Look closely and see how much drawer space those babies eat. If outgrowing boxes every year or so appeals to you I would say that is the perfect fast track way to accomplish that goal!

My ideas on tool storage are 180 degrees off of that though. As a home wrench, I do not have the luxury of pouring boat loads more money into bigger and bigger boxes every few years. I will readily admit, most of my roll cab drawers are stuffed to the gils, and a few to the point of overflowing, but no one will ever accuse me of not making the most of every last square inch available in my box.

To each his own though, I see them as just a good way to get your **** back in the store looking for a bigger box that much sooner cause you farted away your available space in the box you had with stuff like that.

(This post does not apply to those in aviation, or other work situations that dictate storage solutions like this)

Hell, I've probably thrown away 10 trays like that, I never even thought of giving them away on here, just thought they were junk.

I have 2 of those in one of my cart drawers. One rack at the back and the other rack at the front (racks facing each other). I can fit 70+ pliers in one drawer. Makes them easily accesible, and keeps them organized. I'll post pics later today when I'm back home.

Very sweet. So, what is this divider you have in this draw?

As for using this method and getting more in the drawer, only problem I see is I can't tell my wife I ran out of space and need a new cabinet.

Just aluminum angle I bought from Mcmaster, put it down with 3m double back tape, nothing fancy.

I have never seen anything that was off the shelf that worked for all the varieties of tools that people have.
you will need to get some foam and make the cutouts for your tools and ofganize them to your liking

jsut cut pieces to length and used double sided tape to stick them down. two pop rivets would do the same, but I thought I might be redoing it later.

McMaster part numbers: 88805k43 (3/4", $6.74/8ft), 88805k47 (1", $11.04/8 ft), 88805k66 (1.5", $10.59/8ft). I think it's all 1" for the sockets. All 1/16" thick, plenty strong for dividers. The price is right, too.
