Could some of you guys in the know point me to some different
sets. I know Sears used to sell a set
of four. They are handy to get into
tight spots. Thanks

I'd probably just go with the Craftsman five piece set if they're still being made in the USA. If not, USA made Craftsman sets are on Ebay all the time.

I know Craftsman makes 5 different ones but I think the set only has four the last time I saw them a year or so ago. I was surprised that they did not have all 5 in the set. They change things so often.

They are handy for so many different things. I have been picking them up for a $1 each for years. My sons and grand sons take all my extras. I passed up some a while back because I did not think anyone would be asking for them and I don't really sell over the internet. I do a lot of buying.

They do make a lot of thin wrench sets but not as long as the tappet wrenches. Craftsman are good.

It's a 5 pc set again, and the set I bought last year was made in the USA. I have no reason to believe that the COO has changed on these since purchasing mine. I'll post the link again that I posted in post #5 for those who may not have opened it. The link address implies it's a 4pc set, but is actually a 5pc set.

I need a metric set. I have snap on at work in standard I assume they make metric but company provides those and I doubt I will pay the snap on price tag. Would love it if sk made them.

I have a cman set from 20 years ago. Really handy when breaking loose or tightening double nutted bolts.

Thanks to all who posted. A metric
set would be nice too. Waiting on
the IRS check. Wife said I could
have half to spend as I please!

They exist, but rare. Picked up a no name set at goodwill of all places. Facom makes a set, but spendy.

The Facom FM-31.JE6T, 8-19mm tappet wrench set is not spendy when you purchase it at the right time. Zoro Tools has frequent promotions. Today only (use code MARCHMAD20), they have a 20% off sale (no minimum purchase requirement). The set can be purchased for $64.68 (after 20% discount and includes free shipping). Here is the link to the wrench set on Zoro Tools: LINK.

Actually this looks like the set I have

http://m.ebay.com/itm/171012178499?nav=SEARCH

The Facom ones are *really* thin, almost as thin as a cone wrench. The no name ones are about the same thickness as a Craftsman tappet wrench but aren't as long. Since I have them I do find uses for them, they are great for holding caliper slider pins for example.

Since that auction had a part number list I got curious and googled, those apparently are "Wiha Industrial Open-End Wrenches." Not marketed as "thin" or "tappet" at all, but are thinner in cross section than is typical of American or Asian wrench manufacturers.

http://wihatools.com/300seri/350mm_wrenches.htm

Mine aren't here to 100% verify, but I'm pretty sure they're the same. I needed the break of seeing the auction though because they don't have any stamped or forged branding on them, just "Chrom-Vanadium" on one side and a small stamped "West Germany" on the other.

Now I probably have to order the 10/11 (missing from my set) don't I?

If you just need one or two thin metric wrenches for a specific job, if you have a local bicycle shop that stocks tools, you can often buy cone wrenches individually. Park is a good brand of bicycle tools; the cone wrenches look pretty crude (just bead blasted sheetmetal cut in a wrench shape) but they work.

Just ordered my 5 piece Crafstman set, hopefully it will be made in the USA.

Sears online can learn a lot from Amazon. Processing through the shopping cart with Paypal took much longer than it should have.

My wrenches showed up.

Not only were they made in the USA, they are a V date code.

Have these wrenches really been sitting around for over 20 years? :headscrat

They look brand new!
