I'll take some of that action, too. Vaughan makes great hammers and their flat bars are as tough as they come. Thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone use the 22 oz rip hammer? Curious how you like it. Been looking for a new hammer and this might be the reason to get one.

Special Tuesday sale prices not the best deal out there.

I compared prices for Tuesday's March 11th - Vaughan's 25% off and free shipping sale versus Menards online pricing. A 25% discount plus free shipping sounds like a great deal but a comparison of prices shows this is not always true.

Home Depot and Lowe's do not carry Vaughan's products on their website so I could not compare. If you do not have a local Menards store than this comparison may not apply to you due to Menards shipping costs. Also sales tax is a factor. I live in Illinois and would pay sales tax whether I purchased at Vaughan's website or the local Menards store. Sales tax does not factor into the comparison for me but it may for you. Vaughan's is based in Illinois.

It appears framing hammers are less expensive online at Menards. Pry bars and ball pein hammers are less at Vaughan's Tuesday sale. For comparison:

1. Vaughan's model FS999ML - 20 oz framing hammer fiberglass handle. Vaughan's Tuesday price $31.67 less 25% is $23.75. Menards online price $19.99. Difference $3.76 in favor of Menards.

2. Vaughan's model V4 - 19 oz steel curved claw framing hammer 13". Vaughan's price $41.09 less 25% is $30.82. Menards online price $29.99 with in-store pickup. Difference $0.83 in favor of Menards.

Vaughan's offers lower prices on pry bar and ball pein hammer:

3. Vaughan's model B215L - 21 inch long Superbar XL pry bar. Vaughan's price $17.39 less 25% is $13.04. Menards online price $13.98. Difference of $0.94 in favor of Vaughan's.

4. Vaughan's model TC224 - 24 oz ball pein with wood handle. Vaughan's prices is $16.92 less 25% is $12.69. Menards price is $14.88. Difference $2.19 in favor of Vaughan's.

^^^ Yeah I agree. It's a good idea to check around, the 25-percent off isn't as good as others, like Epstein's annual Vaughn sale. I have more hammers than I need now. Since I live in the same city as Epstein's I pick them up for free shipping anyway. I go there about once a month. :)

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever purchased direct from Vaughan, and what forms of payment they accept? I prefer to use PayPal as much as possible and I can't find any info on their site regarding payment without going through their complete checkout process. Would be nice to know before getting an order together. Thanks!

I don't think you can compete with the pricing including free shipping (unless you live in KC, MO).

I'm planning on buying a 48oz ball pein. That would probably cost $15-$20 to ship normally.

Maybe not the best deal for a basic claw hammer, but they've got hammers on their site that I've never seen in a store. And, I need them :pimpflash

Something about hammers... I have more than I can use, but I still continue to buy more.

Same here. What is it about hammers???

I wish I knew.... Such a simple tool, but the nuances between models sure make a big difference when using them. I've got 10 hammers in my cart waiting for tomorrow, and none of them are exact duplication of a hammer I already own. Might just be a different weight, but sometimes that really makes a difference...

Or, maybe were just crazy. How many dozens hammers do we REALLY need :lol_hitti

By the way, anybody know what's a good weight for a general purpose blacksmithing hammer?

I was going to place an order, but there's a $3 handling charge that kills the deal for me. It doesn't show up until the final order confirmation page after you enter payment info.

Does anyone know what the special code is? For some reason, I cannot find anything related to the code anywhere except a banner that pops up to tell me to check back on March 11th for the special code. Well, it's March 11th and I cannot find the code.

As far as the handling fee, sometimes companies charge a handling fee for small orders. Try increasing the size of the order and see if/when the handling fee drops off.

Yeah, I've increased the size of my order quite a lot and I still get a handling fee.

Code is wtd2014.
I think I got a good deal on a few small ball peins but I hate it when they say "free shipping" then add $3.00 for "handling". Just feel like I lost in a carnival shell game.

Very unusually, the free shipping includes to Canada. Seemed too good to be true, so I called to confirm.

Handling fee is kind of a scam for sure. But whatever, it's still a good deal. I got a 2 oz ball peen, a 48 oz ball peen and a few replacement tips for my Craftsman soft face hammers.

I have been pleased with their hammers.... So today was the day to check out their website dealings....... This order was more of a pilot project more than anything;;; for both the website and their all steel 24oz ballpein hammer @ $22.48 with discount and free shipping. Reasonable enough in my thoughts..

The $3 handling charge added on the last page put my finger on pause for a few moments... Well, I am quite interested in that hammer,, So, for $25.48; I have one coming..

Very good post here. I LOVE Vaughan/Dalluge products now that I've been using them. I got a Dalluge made in USA by Vaughan a while back from Menards for less than $10. Super hammer. Later, I bought a Masterforce one to complement that, also on good sale. I think the Masterforce are all made by Vaughan, can anyone confirm that? I also got some Vaughan prybars in the past. For me, better to get them on sale at Menards, but for others, may be better to get this way from Vaughan on sale. Products are outstanding though! - Paul

I took advantage of the promotion to pick up a few replacement handles and a few replacemnt non marking heads. Since, no on around me carries these items in store. This was an perfect opportunity for me grab them at a discount and a free shipping.

I picked up 5 rawhide mallets and one copper mallet with this deal. $111.23 shipped for everything. My only real complaint is with the copper mallet, which coincidentally said Made in England on it and I thought Vaughan was all USA, because the handle is just a little short for the weight of the head, it needs an extra 1.5 inches or so for proper balance. And the handle wedges are a little wonky. I may end up just putting a longer handle on it.
