How do you fit steel toe boots?

Do they naturally feel shorter than your normal size?

Do you buy a size larger?

I don't want them to feel too long on the outside, but the ones I've tried in my usual size seem a little too close to my toes. Thanks

Yea, I buy a size larger. I think my pinky toe is barely under the steel toe if at all. Too long is better for me than cramped toes.

If you have a fat *** foot like I do, yea...the steel portion is hell on your pinky toe.

You will always want to wear thick socks....some guys wear two pair.

When you try it on....if it's uncomfortable...don't buy them.

The ONLY safety shoe I have been able to wear somewhat comfortably is Timberland....Unless you want to spend twice as much. I think mine were like $110.

If your going to wear them 16 hours a day....6 days a week....pay the $$....your feet will thank you.

Side note.....one of the things I like about my shoes besides comfort....easy to lace and even easier to take off.

I wore Red Wing steel toed boots for over 35 years with no discomfort. I have a very narrow foot, B width, and my dealer always got me a great fit. I still wear Red Wing boots, but in my job now, I'm not required to have steel toes. I always figured that my work boots were the shoes that I wore the most, so I would spend a little more for a better boot and one that was still made in USA. JMHO.

You really have to try'em till they fit. If you have doubts, don't buy. Ill fitting steel toe boots will make your life ****. I have short but wide feet and always have a hard time finding shoes. One brand i find works is terra. There is one model i buy over and over that fits right.

I like them a little larger especially because my feet tend to swell. But try to walk around in them in the store for awhile. Feel out for they feel and how your foot feels. I got a pair from my old roommate that he hated after wearing for a week. He said they while they fit fine they just were uncomfortable. I tried them on and love them. Put lots of miles on them and they still feel great. So for some reason with the shape of my foot this boot works for me and not for him.

I can't wear them at all. By the time the steel toe is big enough the boot "clunks" on my foot.

I guess I'm lucky, Ive never had trouble fitting steel toe boots to my feet.

As was already mentioned, walk around in them a bit when you try them on. Run a little. Jump up and down.

I always kick the soles sharply into the ground, like I'm agggressively scuffing the soles. If my toes mash into the cap I try on different boots.

I used to just go by my regular shoe size. But then the last time the safety shoe truck came around, they measured my feet. Even before trying anything on. Turned out I was buying my steel toes a size too small. Talk about a world of difference.

I have two pairs, both my regular size 9d, felt like just plain shoes at the start and still do, with thick or regular socks. Very easy! One pair is Navy issue, and the other was a waterproof rubber boot given to me by a factory. Neither of them are thin and stylish. I walked many miles per day in the rubber ones.

Look into this - some workplaces have a shoe allowance, when they pay half the cost of boots that meet certain specs.

I've been lucky and found that most UK-made boots made in size 11 fit me well enough, but I have a wide foot and any sourced from Europe tend to be a bit tight across the toes.
I've now taken to buying 12s in rigger boots and using them as bike boots too; and simply wearing extra socks - which is ok in the Winter, but not so good in Summer, when your feet are melting. I have to revert to the good well-fitting (and expensive) UK makes.
For Eu customer - I recommend Trucker Boots for summer as they're tough, light, last ages and not too expensive, around €55 to €60.

My shoe sizes are all over. I own nike and puma and vans and dc. They range from size 7 and a half to size 10 and a half. My steel toe boots run around size 8 in the walmart brand and my foot measures 9 on the sizing device.

It's really hard for me to find the right steel toe boots to make the investment in. Any tips? In the future when I graduate and get a job, I want redback from Matco but the Matco dealer says that it's pretty much a pay up front thing no warranty either. I can't buy boots online because I need to wear them first. There's a local store that sells timberland and redwing but I'm having a hard time finding the right one... The fact that they're around 200 doesn't help either. If I'm going to be spending 200 then I want redback but there's the issue of
No warranty and if they don't fit then I can't really do anything about it

I'm currently wearing a pair of old and beat up size 8 and a half brahma shoes. They run for 30 at walmart

Walmart boots never lasted me very long. The only quality boots I've ever bought are redwings though my employer pays 50%. The guys at work say hytest are good too though

I wear a 15. Not easy to find. I have the best luck at shoe carnival believe it or not. Don't like red wings personally. Timberland is what I get, best boot so far to me.

For those of you with wider feet, try a redwing king toe. They claim they are 30% more room in the toe. I came across them by accident at a local boot shop that carried several brands. Hadn't had safety toes in years, and my feet have gotten wider but no longer since then. The redwings were the only ones that were comfortable. I am starting to break in pair #3 plus I bought a set of insulated ones for winter. The 8"insulated were $190, the 6" non insulated are $150-160 I think, been a couple years since I bought a pair(old job paid for boots, so I bought a pair in 2012 even though I didn't need them because i could see the writing on the wall. Sure enough a couple months later I got the axe. Got another job a couple weeks later & never looked back.

Walmart boots never lasted me very long.

We have horses, so I've been using the WalMart Hermans boots for about ten years now. I pretty much wear them anytime I'm home, especially when I'm in the garage or shop. I find them very comfortable. The soles wear out about every 1 - 2 years. For $59 in the stores, I'm perfectly happy with that.
