Any idea the manufacturing date would be for the Prentiss vises with writing behind static jaw? I've been wondering when my No 3 was made.

Once Craig (catalyst) gets moved in and has time I am sure he can chime in on dates and such for the Prentiss vises with the text behind the static jaw. He is a expert on these vises.

It is one of the "generic" prentiss' that everyone assumes was sold under "house brands" back in the day. The distinguishing differences are (besides the usual lack of Prentiss lettering) is they have cast-in jaw inserts instead of replaceable, and they don't have the extra bosses on the front side.

Good morning,
I have a number of the rear jaw marked statics, some barely legible. I think they were all marked and the lettering got destroyed because it was used as a anvil near that edge. 2.5 cts worth.

prentiss 58 comes in around 275lbs.

Well this isn't a Dodge but it is my Plymouth I had years ago. 1970 440 6 pack GTX, 4 speed, 4.10 Dana. I restored it. An awesome RED car that cops liked to follow but I never got pulled over. ha ha

First coat just sprayed. The color showing up isn't accurate at all, my camera is just awful indoors and only works well when a tree stump is in the shot. The color is olive like. Final, outdoor photos coming later.

LOL... I don't think Pea Green will make a comeback anytime soon... :willy_nil

J/K, I'm sure it will look better out in the sunlight.

We need a Kelly Blue Book for vices. I think I'm catching the fever and would like to know what is good, what is junk and what a fair price is. /B]

Fair price is all subject to how bad the fever gets

Yeah, it'd be all over the place. I've got a Reed 404R that I got for $35, and Wilton 400S for $30. I guess you could say I'd cover the low end of the spectrum. Go to ebay for the high end of it. Dare I mention the other Reed I got for cleaning a garage out?

I'm going to post the real Dodge Slide Vise now. The grease is like sticky glue so it doesn't slide to well now. It is in overall great shape except it has no handle balls. They appear to be screwed in and just broke off. One picture shows the broken off piece in the end.

I'm pretty picky about stuff and I also have very little patience so lettering doesn't bode well with that combination. I've steered clear of it thus far. I like it when it looks perfect though.

That vise started in my electrolysis tank. Then I hit it up on my wire wheel and sand blasted the crevices and insides. Primer, paint, bake, done.

Was someone buying the mystery clearanced paint at the end of the isle again????
I buy gobs of unused paint at garage sales for pennies on the dollar. I start grabbing cans from the many full crates of it I have and shake each one. If it feels full then I use it. I looked at this particular can and wondered what Summer Avocado would look like on a vise. There it is.

I used to get tons of free spray paint at the toxic chemicals drop off site in town. Anything still usable (that isn't now illegal...), is free (the best way to get rid of it is to use it..) but lately the selection is near zero... :dunno:

This was exactly why I built a rattle can shaker... :pimpflash

Balane----Beautiful job. It's going to be entertaining watching that one till the gavel falls.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getridaone----I am a diehard Chevy man, but now I have got to have a Dodge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

KMScott----I believe if you would fabricate a thick heavy swivel base for that monster, you would have the topper of all swivel jaws.

The hunt continues.
