My kid has the tactical tomahawk. It's super nice for throwing and you could probably kill somebody with it in a fight, but I don't think I'd try to chop firewood with it.

They actually work really well. My buddy had one on the last camping trip and we chopped 4-5" diameter wood fairly easy. I wouldn't want to try it on anything much larger though.

I'll echo the above and say yes it works, but I also wouldn't want to chop MUCH firewood with it. Sometimes the weight of a full hatchet helps, if you don't have a real axe.

I was traded a SOG Flash Tanto at a flea market event Saturday, never heard of them before but I am glad I traded. My only problem is I can't pick it up without flicking it open, mental thing I need to get over :lol_hitti

SOG knives are pretty descent for China made knives...I own a few and use them when I don't want to do damage to my nicer/more expensive knives.

I had a Flash II similar to yours. Now dad has it and it's his EDC. I wish he would take better care of it but it stands up to the abuse so that's something.

I have a half serrated Trident, very similar but I prefer both the blade & handle to the Flash. Same mechanism, which is really the best in the size/price range.

Nice thing about these is if you destroy the point it's not hard to fix it with common cheap sharpeners.

The blades aren't as good as Kershaws but the overall knife is more versatile to me. I'm lefty, so that has something to do with it I'm sure. And I hate the more common leaf spring sleeve to close the Kershaws.

I believe they are made in Taiwan....AKA "The Good China" LOL.

I have a few SOGs and love them. They are the only manufacturer that does the pocket clip the "right" way (IMHO) so that the body of the knife is entirely inside your pocket.

Good price on some knives. I'm considering the Tactical Tomahawk for camping...

I'm trying to remember which is which but...

If it's got something like 8cr13mov it's chinese steel.
If it's got something like AUS8 it's taiwanese steel.
If it's something like vg8 or 420/440 it's probably US steel.

For those that care.

The taiwanese steel (like most of their metal work) isn't bad it's just not as good as some of the US steels. Sometimes they have sog knives on clearance at lowes for 20 bucks but the model varies. I don't know about their chinese models but their taiwan steel knives are decent but the blade can burr.

Website says "Assembled in USA", may be Chinese or Taiwan manufactured.

I have 3 folding SOGS; all assembled in the USA. However, I emailed SOG about this last year and was told the vast majority of steel/parts they use are from overseas but assembled here.

The "Made in USA" moniker has a certain (intangible) value to the customer just as the (tangible) parts of the knife do. Guess you could call it "perceived value".

My wal mart in town sells SOG stuff and has the tactical tomahawks. They don't have the items on the shelf just pictures and you ask them to get them for you. probably scared of people stealing
