............................................

I know this may sound like a stupid question, because "one can never have a big enough box!" BUT, I am trying to come up with a new solution for nut and bolt storage. I found a set of print drawers on CL for sale that interest me. But, the dimensions are 46 1/2"Wx34 1/2"Dx17"T. I can't find a place in my garage that I could put it! If it was a floor to ceiling cabinet, it would be a different story, but I'd have to set it on something, and the only something I have close to those dimensions is my 48"Wv36"D welding table. Obviously that is not ideal.

So, for those of you that have a small shop that have picked one of these up, do you find it too big for the shop space you have?

My problem is, right now my bolts are stored in a couple miss matched sets of Durham and Aidan metal cabinet drawers that are about 12" deep. Problem 1, the bins don't match in style and dimensions (don't judge me:D). Problem 2, they are only 12" deep and currently sitting on a 24" deep shelf with wasted space behind them. I need this shelf space and have no other place to set the cabinets that will not be in the way, or hard to reach.
I'm almost to the point of building my own set of custom fit storage bins that fit on the shelf perfectly. But I know if I wait long enough something will pop up. Plus I don't have the time right now to invest in building some.

If I buy this print cabinet, It will hold ALL of my hardware, but I would have to make some serious changes to make it work in my shop. I've read the nuts and bolts thread, but either the options there don't really fit my style or plans, or options that I like are hard to find around here. And I need something pretty quick.

I guess I may be looking for someone to talk me out of buying this huge cabinet.:lol_hitti

Yea that is their major drawback. Storage cap and strength wise they are awesome, but the depth not only closed but open is a real problem for all of but the most open shops. A guy on here from Indy built a real nice work center out of them, but it ended up being the center of his shop I gathered.

I had the chance to pick up a nice set cheap, but the depth was a deal breaker. Not only once I got them home in the single stall, but just getting them home in the first place.

The one here is $175. There isn't a chance in hell to find one under $100 around here. Most sell for $200-$400. Hell I just sold 74 well used Akro bins for $50 and the guy didn't bat an eye and was worried he wouldn't get here in time.

Z, thanks for the conformation of what I already feared. I spent a little time in the garage this morning milling over ideas, and I think I got a solution that will work. I have some 20"x20" single metal drawers that I use for all kinds of stuff. I think I can move some stuff around and build some really nice dividers with little effort and materials I already have, and come up with a great storage solution. I'll be sure and take lots of pics

I was thinking about this again since I had to move a bunch of junk just to get to something a few minutes ago. Why not build it into a workbench? Most of my benches (I have a lot of benches) have nothing useful under them, I really need to fix that and do the Steevo thing.

Well, I have only 2 benches a welding bench and a wood top general bench which I just finished that has two banks of drawers on each side and a siding door cabinet in the middle. So that's a no go. I got a plan however and I will get on it as soon as I get back from spring break vaca.
