I have seen this toolbox for sale.

But I'm not sure its really old.It looks a bit like Craftsman, but it's not.
Does anybody recognize it, or is it a Chinese knock off? :headscrat

Unless somebody has it's twin here, I'm going to say it is hard to tell. Huot is a good possibility, but it could also be a Kennedy. That is just the start of the guessing game. If I knew for sure craftsman used a drop front in the 50's, I'd throw that name out too. Could be a MBC too. I know you said it is a drive, but if it's a size that works for you at a cheap price, take a gamble and go see it. I'm guessing the box is 50 years old and in general, most boxes of the time were well build. If it is a good solid box, go for it. If it is a pile of tin, sorry for wasting gas.

It has the drawer configuration of an early Huot model 101. Pre-swoosh imprint. But I'm not sure about the side handles. I don't have one yet, so I have nothing to compare it to. (soon though) The logo would be similar to the one in the 2nd pic, not the oval decal seen in the flyer.

If this is what it is, YOU **** for finding one that old in such great condition !

my guess is Hout, Waterloo, Proto, Craftsman, MBC, Dunlap and a few others. it does look like a quality box is what i'm trying to say and if under $100 go take a drive and if it's $50 don't respond to this thread and hop in your car and buy it if it isn't rusted through any parts we can't see in the pictures.

good luck

I just noticed that the slides have been painted. I wonder if it had a re-paint at some time in the past. As far as I know, Huot had black slides for most of their time making these boxes. :dunno:

Laro: what sort of online service do you have for advertising items to sell over there on your side of the pond? as you probably know the US has Craigslist and Canada has something similar like kjjij.com or something like that along with Craigs.

or do you use newspaper still? also just curious how much the seller is asking for the box you posted and do you see many US made old 50's boxes over there very often?

looks like a road trip with the bride tomorrow to grab some beer with fish and chips close to this box??

I didn't even notice the OP was from the Netherlands, I think that opens a whole new box of nails. How many European companies made boxes like that?

We have got something similar like Craigslist, its called: Marktplaats(Marketplace). It's very popular, but prices can be high for someone else's ****.

The seller is asking $70, but with the fuel cost it will be double.

You don't see a lot of old US tool chests for sale. They are very expensive or are sold within a few hours.
For the last 3 years, I'm looking for a old Snap-on topbox to put on my KRA-379a. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201202
I have only seen a few for sale but had no luck!

I was a bit curious about this box, if only it was a bit closer, I would have taken a look.:bounce:

Ah I know that type of box , it was used exclusively but the Dutch Mountain Rescue team
They had them painted blue so they would stand out against the snow covered peaks of Holland.

I used to work with a very gullible lad , he went to Amsterdam for a short holiday , we told him a must see was The Famous Dutch Mountain Rescue Team Museum ,
he came back quite sad as he couldn't find it,
( I doubt he found the red light district either , anything below the waist was a mystery to him)

Next time I'm in Amsterdam, I will try to find that museum, it sounds very interesting.:D

I thought the British tourist only came to Amsterdam for our special coffee?

I am a bit jealous of you brits. I see a lot of nice old snap on toolboxes on ebay.uk. But no one wants to send one over.:willy_nil

A snap on box would be costly thing to ship , given our postal charges ,
I'd go and have a look at the blue box , seems a reasonable one to start off with.

Have you thought of the Gedore 1580 roll cabs or the larger Hazet Assistents ?
,lovely tool boxes, They should turn up local to you

Another thought might be coming over to the UK , lots of Dutch guys visit the Land Rover auto jumbles at Newbury 4x4 showground that are held twice a year

I have talked to the seller. The box is made by Belzer and it's not that old.
I think I will look further, for an old Snap on topbox.

I already have a roll cab: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201202 but I was looking for a top box, something like a Kra-53 or Kra-59.

A visit to an auto jumble/ Billing show in the UK, is on my wish-list.:D

Thanks.
