Wiring garage door opener

Hello everyone. I have no idea about residential wiring. I installed a new GDO (there wasnt one previously) and i have to keep the garage lights on to keep power to the GDO. Is there a way to wire it or the outlet its plugged to, to keep it powered up without turning the lights on?

You need to look at the wiring in the box and see what colors are in there, if you have a black,white and red with the red going to the light then you can run a wire off the box and add an outlet in the ceiling, then hook into the black and white. If all you have is a black and white then you need to find another source of power and run a new outlet from that.
